As far as we the players can tell, there is no intention of making an ETS3 and throwing away all the progress of ETS2. There's no valid reason to make an ETS3 at this time.
ETS 3 looks very unlikely right now. What happens 5-10 years from now is not decided beyond wishing to complete the two existing titles.
Personally, I'd love to see them progress into Asia but don't know if that will even happen. They could always treat this like Star Citizen, keep it ever-evolving and growing and becoming everything it can be.
Another wish, I'd like to see more realism in cargo mechanics so that cab sizes and chassis choices actually have an impact. But with a 40-44 tonne limit to work with, and even 4x2's able to haul 44 tonnes GCWR, there may not be much they can do beyond where it's at now.
Lastly, what about a total transport game where it integrates with Flight Simulator and Train Sim World titles? Haul a load to be picked up by a friend in a train who carries it on to the airport where another friend's 747 carries it on to parts unknown... ;-)
Maybe some conditions before thinking on a sequel is finishing all European countries for this one first, both delivering the new and renewing the old, and thinking on some groundbreaking feature that the current version couldn't handle. But even a massive update could be done to current software, and they could simply renumber the existent one.
It also means that SCS would need to renegotiate all the licences (that costs a lot of time and money) and you can bet that the oldest trucks (e.g. the Renault Magnum) won't be in that game anymore. With that you will have an inferiour new game that will 100% be a flop.
