You can have as many profiles as you want, but profiles that have had mods installed, and then removed, may show a warning that it expects the mods to still be in the game.
If you have unsubbed the mod from the Workshop correctly, you can ignore the warning and carry on playing without it. There is always a risk that mod can corrupt your profile. If you use that profile, it is not a clean, vanilla profile, it may still cause problems. There are previous saves and autosaves in the ETS2 folder in your "documents" folder you can go back to and reinstall the mod if the game crashes.
Ok. Thanks.
So - if I delete all traces of ETS2 from my drive and re-install and let Steam sync the game profile last saved - will that be good enough for a vanilla profile? Of course it has to be mod free when last synced with Steam. Or - do I really need to start all over again with a brand new profile?
Example:
You have a mod that adds some bullbars and put one of these on your truck. The save file has the info, that this bullbar is on that truck.
You delete the mod, the whole game, whatever... the save file is still looking for that thing from this mod.
The game might just delete it from the truck if it doesnt find it or at best revert to a standard bullbar, or just crash the game.
The profile/save file is not vanilla any more as you can't really tell what happend.
Deleting the game itself and re-installing does nothing to your profiles, unless you have told the uninstaller to delete them.
Synched with steam or not... does not matter.
Having a totally vanilla profile is a good thing!
You can always play the game on the newest release.
Also a fresh start is sometimes ... refreshing...
And... you don't need to delete the mods for a vanilla profile.
Just create a new profile before loading any profile and don't activate any mods. That's it.
The entire ETS2 folder under Docs is deleted.
Thanks for that thorough explanation. I’ll reinstall and start all over - was so happy for my Scania S - and no mods for me until I have sorted all this out. Thanks again.

Thanks again. It’s kind of sad that mods can really mess things up. I think mods are one of the games strong points. They can really do wonders for the game in many ways.
But - vanilla it is then.
Though having a vanilla profile to check if the issue you have on a modded profile is due to the game or not is always a good idea.
And you’re right. However - releasing mods also comes with responsibilities. I’ve always used mods from Steam. But many of them don’t get updated with all game updates. If they get updated at all. And that’s a shame cause there are some really great ones out there.
I do however know that mods are created by private individuals and that requires some available time.
But if mods can mess up your long term profile for good and require you to start over then I’ll rather just go vanilla all the way.
But - a messed up profile is only one of many possible causes to my issues. We will see.
Just to calrify, that SCS is not releasing mods; players are.
Workshop is simply a convenient place from which to obtain mods. There is no guarantee that any of the mods on the Workshop will work with the game or work in conjunction with other mods. The mods on Workshop are no better or worse than mods you find elsewhere.
I’m now on a fresh mod free profile. I did see minor improvements but random stuttering was still happening. However it’s actually nice to start over - to get back to the core gameplay instead of drowning in modding and such.
What I have narrowed it down to is the use of G-sync. G-sync on its own works fine and as intended - also at lower fps. But as soon as I start limiting fps or using v-sync at the same time things start to stutter randomly. It makes no difference if I use v-sync/limiting in the game or adjust in the NVCP.
So - G-sync on and limiting/v-sync off. I’m now maxed out in settings to keep fps below my monitor’s refresh rate so G-sync can work as intended. This way ETS2 runs at its best in my system.
I have other games that quickly reach my monitor’s 170hz in fps. For these games I’ll just enable v-sync in-game. Seems to work fine.
I guess that sums it up. So now I just have to keep trucking and start building myself a new European virtual trucking empire. And no mods for me again. Ever.
I know. :-)
