The only other thing you can do is just disable them completely in the gameplay settings (which won't take effect in your current job if you're on one either). So it's that or just accept that sometimes there will be no alternate route. Unfortunately I think this is just due to the scale of the map, so in some places alternate routes weren't able to fit.
The route advisor only knows that you didn't go the way it wants. It won't route you in via another way unless you go far enough out of the way for it to assume an alternative path is faster.

Really good variation from roadworks to broken down vehicles plus you get the option of adding tarmac patches and bumps in road.
Actually, the bumps are there in the regular mod, but there is an add-on that adds even more of them! ;)
Otherwise, i don't see the purpose to break the immersion of the player...
If a major accident/incident has occurred, there will be not diversions in place, just like IRL.
The GPS will not know about it or display any route to avoid it. It is up to you to decide what to do, again just like IRL. Don't like them? Turn them off in the game options.
All the maps are out of date. Looking in-game directly now and I see what you mean. Looks like someone forgot to update for the one and only road in/out.
