Is my progress saved to the steam cloud?
It might seem like a stupid question, but I'm just really scared of losing all my progress. On steam it says that it's saved to the steam cloud, and in my game it also says that it's synced to the steam cloud. I assume that this means that it's saved, but I just really want to make sure that that means that it's my progress that's saved, so all my levels, and my exploration status, and all my employees and all that stuff. I've lost all my progress 2 times already when I didn't save it to the steam cloud, so I just really want to make sure that I'm doing it the right way now, and that I won't lose all my progress.

Thanks for your help!

Go to your Documents folder, right click your "Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder and select "Copy", then paste the "Euro Truck Simulator 2" that you just copied right back. It should now be called "Euro Truck Simulator 2 - copy" .. rename the folder to something like "ETS2 backup" .. You now have a complete copy of the important stuff, that is in a folder that Steam and the Game do not know exists, and is safe from being altered by either.
- Each day after playing, you can copy the contents of the "Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder, and paste it in to the "ETS2 backup" folder.

It's just a game... but before you jump out of the window because something went wrong, just make regular backups.

No, a cloud is NOT a backup, it's just some comfort for lazy people.

The steam cloud is well known for corrupting or losing your data, while you never have full access to it. You wanna use it for _not_ losing your data? Good luck mate, you'll need it. ;-)

If doing this, preferably do it to a different storage drive so you don't lose both if you lose the drive.

FWIW I don't think that this is good enough if you have Steam cloud enabled for any of your profiles because the actual saved game data is held somewhere in the Steam user structure not in the user's documents structure. Personally I don't use Steam cloud for either ETS2 or ATS and therefore have no direct experience of backing up that Steam data so cannot be certain where you'd find it (but it will be somewhere within C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\ I suspect).

Of course if you trust the Steam cloud as backup then this may be moot, but all I'll say in that instance is good luck. Any backup where you've not tested a restore is as good as no backup at all.

Edit: I may have mis-read what you are saying, so take the following fwiw.

I think you might be confusing Steam Cloud and Microsoft OneDrive .. Steam Cloud should not be taking files OFF your own PC, only making copies on the Steam Cloud .. OneDrive WILL move your files OFF your PC.

Steam cloud doesn't take files off the PC, but it does the store the files in a different location than when you have steam cloud off.

So your instructions only work if steam cloud is off.

I don't see that it makes any difference when it comes to backing up - you are trying to create another copy of your data somewhere other than where it lives for normal purposes, preferably onto a different device. Why you end up needing that copy is irrelevant at the point you take the backup. If you then need to restore it but the cloud copy isn't available or the cloud provider's restore mechanism doesn't work then you'd better have another copy somewhere.
