ETS Vanila or modded ?
Hi, I was wondering if i was the only one playing ETS2 Vanila with just DLC's.

i've used mods at the beginning but it gave problems here and there so quited mods.
if you do use mods what are your favorite ones to use?
and do they give problems when there is an update for ETS2?

Oh hey, another mods thread. If you want to start again, make sure the mods are for your current version.

I have almost all of the important DLC's (Going East, Scandinavia and High Power Cargo pack, plus some of the paint packs) and I don't plan on using mods for a long while. There's enough content for me in the vanilla game to have fun with, I don't wanna overcomplicate it with mods, unless there are mods that trully improve the base game mechanics or something.

Mods seem to consistently break when the game is updated so it's a bit of a faff waiting for the new versions to come out. I like to try new things but there are some frankly rubbish mods out there so I've learned to check reviews from other players before going there. Currently I have Rusmap and a Kenworth FLB truck mod installed. Teaching myself to drive from the other seat in advance of the ATS launch. Being a typical stubborn brit I've driven europe in a right hand drive truck I doubt that will be available in ATS so I'd better start orientating myself. Feels so weird.

Back when I first started applying mods to my game it initially did give problems because I didn't really keep on top of them and what was compatible with what etc. But since then I've learnt to keep mods to a minimum and only apply those that truely add something to the base game such as TSM, Rusmap, Russian Open Spaces etc. and, of course, there's one or two truck mod as well. Gotta love me some RJL:

Other than those mods I've mentioned, I use AI traffic mods, an AI mod that improves its behaviour, graphical improvements, sound mods (Man.. I love the sound of a V8), weather mods, skybox mods. That's.. pretty much all I really use, all of which is maintained and always updated.

As for driving a left hand vehicle hahaha.. the temptation of this Merc was so much that I forced myself to become accustomed to driving left handed, the sound of it though.. oooh it was only 164HP as well mind you:

Over time, if you don't throw in the towel with them, you start to pick up on what you should keep a hold of and what not to.

The promods only one I use, but the quality of the vanilla is such that mods are not needed like they were in the past. AI mods really avoid those as some modders have good intentions with thier mods just the object as it not setup correctly for ETS2 or item is too high poly to be of practical use. Truck models just use the vanilla ones as driving American truck mod makes no sense in Europe emission standards would ban them alone, and the truck lengths are strictly enforced in the EU.

I usually stick to vanilla on my main profile, only mods I use is map mods and few trucks on "research" profile

The only way to get good mods that are continually supported by the authors is to register with the official SCS forums.

Many people don't realise theres an official forum where there are proper dedicated threads for each and every mod.

The authors are of course members themselves and post updates of any pending changes. If there are bugs in the mod, it quickly gets reported by Users and is usually fixed by the author. They provide direct links to the mods as well.

This is by far the best way to go about obtaining the best suitable mod for your requirements. There are screenshots and sometimes videos of the mod so you can see for yourself what you're getting.

One of the better known authors is Jazzycat who makes fantastic mods of A.I Traffic. Another person is grimes, who makes fantastic weather mods like Frosty, Gloomy and Autumn and what about GerScaniaTrucker who makes the absolute best Foggy mod.

I simply could not imagine playing this game without mods. True, there is a lot of content in the vanilla game, but then there are also tons of great mods, many of which are totally kept up-to-date with the latest version of the game. Jazzycat's vehicle packs, and his trailers and cargo pactks, are probably the most important. However, there are then a whole host of other mods, such as Grimes' awesome seasonal mods, and various truck mods, like RJL's awesome Scania T mod. If you have a little patience, using mods can be a very, very rewarding experience!

Just Promods. I have encountered a few glitches like the occasional invisible wall or incorrectly calculated route/job, but the sheer amount of stuff it adds and the quality of it makes up for that.

Just plain vanila. I also have Going East! and Scandinavia.
Dmny Jan 6, 2016 @ 9:28am
I used to play with several mods, but over time it came down to only using Promods and a weather mod for better lighting/skyboxes. At some point I encountered a glitch with Promods (invisible barrier) and I stopped using it as well, altough I'm pretty sure it's fixed by now.

No you aren't. I'm playing vanilla with the cabin accessories but haven't even bought my own truck yet...LOL.

Vanilla with DLCs plus AI traffic pack by Jazzycat and a real brands / real logo mod because I like having real cars and companies in my game.

Probably going to try Promods once I start a new profile.
