lod is level of detail.
Each model has a number of models within the main model, often 3 or more.
Each is more or less detailed than the other.
The game switches the model as you get closer, to a more detailed model.
This is so the game is not having to render so many details of objects that are far away.
You can edit the timing of this setting. It's in the config.cfg file in your documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder.
around line 116 are 2 settings, I set mine to 2.

uset g_lod_factor_traffic "2"
Be warned that this may cause problems if your PC can't keep up..
