As above, once your drivers have maxxed their skills, they will be earning plenty and reduce the chance of returning empty.
They don't need micromanaging (unless that's your thing) as they will skill up on their own
It doesn't reduce the range of jobs that drivers can take as they will take whatever loads are available. if there is no load for a trailer then they will just take a "freight market" load where they pull the other companies trailer.
And drivers are hard coded to fail to find jobs 10% of the time, there is no evidence that owned trailers increases that percentage.
Also matching owned trailer types to the freight leaving the depot they are based at can actually INCREASE payouts. If a city has a lot of heavy cargo loads available then putting low loader and drop-deck trailers in the garage means that those, more lucrative, loads are prioritised by your drivers when they are available.
Once all 5 drivers at a garage are fully maxed out on skills 100% efficiency for the garage will eventually come
There is significant evidence that an owned trailer that the driver does not have full skills to use can cause the process to glitch out and prevent a hired driver from working at all.
