"It's not an autopilot) But a safety system, if you've lost your vigilance. It gives you a signal and makes an emergency return to the lane, and then you steer yourself"
Its like a guide, reminder for trucker = Hey pal, lets stay on your lane.
ATS = Activate in speed 35 Mp/h
ETS2 = Activate in speed 55 km/h
Besides, Autopilot feature is in only on planes, ships and submarines lol
Anyway, I managed to get it to work properly in the end. All I had to do was to tweak a few Force Feed-Back settings for the wheel within ETS2/ATS. Then I understood what was happening: simply my FFB settings were too 'soft' to the point that I did not 'feel' anything, but hey!, the Lane Assistant works well indeed! Now I can feel my wheel 'nudging' when I reach the line limit on both sides, if the Assistant is ON (set on LANE KEEP, so to speak). Also, one can send a console command, to set and/or check the state of the assistant:
g_lane_assistant, followed by 0 (OFF, which is the default value), 1 (lane-leave alert), or 2 (lane keep).
Very nice.
"You wanna tell that to all the people showing ETS2 and ATS going with AutoMaGic Pilot"! on YouTube"
Think at you misunderstand me, NO, I dont want at ATS/ETS2 go to autopilot system (Even SCS added lately automatic features to both games, Like: Automatic wipers, Automatic head lights, Automatic long lights, and so on, But good at we have option to choose) I have all manual in settings because i want control everything by manual.
I am glad at you managed to get it work, My wheel worked from beginning (T300 RS GT) and i assume at i had enough set FFB, Nice for you, good job.
Thanks for tip about console command, Need check that later.
Anyway, my FFB settings were too 'low' as said, so I couldn't 'feel' the wheel response. Now I cranked up the value of FFB ('overall gain' within the Sim's options - Controls) to 100, and I can in fact feel the wheel vibrating (and 'nudging') finally, while before I could not feel anything whatsoever. My bad somehow, after all.
Indeed do check out these console commands. After all they are the only way to have certainty of what is the setting set to, since there is no feedback of the state of the assistant. I definitely hope there is a state coming out from the telemetry plugin, or else... we will never know what's really happening, unless one day SCS decide to let us know with some kind of visual feedback on the screen while driving (same goes for the emergency brake: there is no way to know what setting you are on, actually, unless of course you open the options panel and check it out by yourself)). At any rate, as for the lane assistant you can in fact open the console and write "g_lane_assistant" and hit ENTER, and the console will tell you what it is its current state (0, 1 or 2). This method of inquiring the console is also useful with Stream Deck, creating macros and assigning them to single hit buttons. While you drive, you can in fact instruct a Stream Deck button to automagically operate the console, provided there are just a line or two to be inserted into the console command line and so it will only be a matter of milliseconds with the console opened (because, at least for me, while it is opened, I lose the wheel control over the truck, basically. But if the road is straight, I hit the button on my Stream Deck and get to change the assistant state in a jiffy, while I 'almost' don't even notice!)
If you need any help, ask right away.
Cheers, and drive safe. :)
I have two devices, an 'old' SD (15 keys) and a new SD +, which is great. The classic 3x5 I bought it 2nd hand and reconditioned from my usual reseller last Monday, and it's nice. I spent it like 60 euros, not bad after all. Now I am waiting for the XL to be shipped at their shop, because I couldn't wait to get it as well!! I know, I am completely crazy, but gaming (and simulating! ETS2/ATS, and MSFS 2020 and many other simulators) it's the only passion that I have got in these years, so my money is spent in this field without too many regrets!
Also, Stream Deck is quite useful for almost any operation with a computer (and yes, it's got LEDs on every button).
Anyway, the only problem with its software is that Elgato did not think about giving users a three (or more) way buttons. So it's all a nightmare in creating the correct scripts and combos, because we are limited with two-states buttons only, and for such an assistant like the Lane Assistant, two-states are too few.
At any rate, yeah, SD devices are indeed nice and quite useful, I must admit. You can have one on your desktop and find some way to use it almost every time!
Ciao, thanks for replying. :)
