Fines - not impressed with this one.
(And of course I can't say where it happened just now as I am not in the game)

Ok, checked.... Going EAST out of Innsbruk to Klagenfurt am Worthersee.
(Sorry if not spelt correctly, a lot of screen switching just happened trying to get them right.)

That lovely windy WINDY road.

I was approaching the toll gates and a message FLASHED on the screen something about "Commercial trucking not allowed in this area UNLESS........"
and it vanished.

I am a SLOW reader. So these quick messages are annoying.

Hmmmm.....

Ok, but I have a valid job... Let's go.
Get to the toll gate, paid an amazing amount of money, but hey....
Went through.

A few seconds later!

FINE! $1400 EU or something.

NOT FAIR!
Ok, it is all just "funny money" but IRL that wouldn't happen - would it?
I would be told clearly and if I wanted to go the "fine" would be part of the toll.

It was fun driving up there though.
Got to the lookout and the cut-scene at the top of the mountain range.

IRL they wouldn't even let you drive there. No matter how much money you would pay them. Commercial trucking is just not allowed there.

I am also a slow reader. What I do is to try to be quick pausing the game (F1). Then I get enough time to read (and understand) the message.

btw, that "... prohibited unless...". In the game you are allowed to deliver to companies *within* the restricted area but using that restricted road as a drive-through will cost you a nefty fine. Personally I see that nefty fine as bribing the guard officers to let me through. :-)

All fines are just there to incovenience poor people. For rich people it is just what you have to pay to be allowed to do it.

Although there aren't any such in ETS2, only in ATS (in one instance).

Sure there are - or is at least one...

I cannot recall any in ETS2 at the moment but I am sure that if it is any they world work like in ATS. Somehow you have to get there with your big semi trailer (if there are any).

I cannot check right now but I am pretty sure it is the same text in ETS2 and ATS.

What about riding a trailer-less (free-roaming) semi-truck through that road, would it trigger the warning and the fine as well? Not a commerical purpose technically

You can drive through bobtail, but the Grossglockner is more fun hauling a long trailer (and swallowing the fine).

Put me out of my misery then Mirko, I cannot think of any other routes in vanilla ETS2 that are so restricted, let alone ones with a company depot within the boundary of the restriction.

Großglockner for sure. If there are other I don't know. Am not too much into ETS2 recently so I might have missed one. Have never seen one with a company inside the gates though on either side of the Atlantic, although this for ATS would not mean they don't exist but just I did not deliver there until now. Usually I drove them illegally in transit and payed the penalty.

Ah, OK, so we got a bit lost somewhere along the line - I was referring explicitly to your comment about businesses inside the restricted areas and you were just talking about the areas themselves. FWIW the one depot inside a restricted area that I know of is in ATS where there is a Plaster & Sons inside Glacier National Park in NW Montana near Kalispell.

If you are free roaming then you only have to pay the toll.

You might be a slow reader, but you read the most important part of the message. "Commercial trucking not allowed in this area"
