FPS Limitation
is there a way to limit the framerate without doing it via the refresh rate?
whenever i go for 60hz refresh rate on my 144hz monitor it adds alot of input lag with my mouse, which i hate and would love to avoid...

is there a setting in a cfg or ini file somewhere where i can limit the frames perhaps? otherwise my pc is going full blast the entire time and the fans are full blast nonstop

Go into your gpu driver and Set a fps limit there.
But if that causes some inputlag it probably wont change that regardless where you set that.

where would that be in nvidia? i looked into geforce experience, but it doesnt let me limit anything, only "optimise" the graphic settings, i looked there before posting and thought it would be that simple :D
idk how to just limit ets2 in fps

You need the Nvidia Control Panel, not Geforce XP.
But in your case, sounds like you need to turn on Vsync in the game options, that will limit your framerate to whatever your Hz monitor is.

(Don't know how it works exactly, but on my old monitor Vsync would limit the framerate to 60fps. I now have a 144hz monitor and turning on Vsync limits my framerate to 144fps.)

oh, so there is no fps limit that i can somehow set then?
im aware of the vsync way, but if i limit my 144hz monitor to 60hz, it adds a very noticeable input delay for example when i move the mouse arround in menus.

i want a fps limit, not vsync :D thats why i created this post

my current pc has a 3080, if i leave vsync to default (144hz for my simrig monitor) it gets to its limits at like 100 - 120 fps, and really starts to sound like a jet engine if im in bigger traffic cities (on promods for example) hence why i would like to limit the FPS, not the refresh rate, to 60 so my pc can breathe whenever im not in high density areas, because right now its always trying its hardest with everything

Like i said, i have a 144hz monitor and Vsync caps the FPS to 144, not 60. So with Vsync i get a 144hz monitor playing on 144fps. No idea why it would lock to 60 with you?

But you're confusing because in your second part you say you do want to cap at 60fps which will definitely be noticeable on your 144hz monitor.

Anyway, you need Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings -> Add (ETS2) -> Change Max Frame Rate.

ah! nevermind! nvidia control panel worked! i limited the frames now to 60 without the need of vsync, no input lag compared to the ingame vsync way of limiting it!

yeah i just found that out! cheers for the step by step though, hopefully that helps others aswell with similar intend!

why i want to cap to 60 on my 144hz? because otherwise my gpu will run full blast nonstop, and i dont want my fans running full speed the entire time

it doesnt lock to 60 on my 144hz, i was playing on 144hz locked the entire time, but i cannot get a full 144 fps with my graphic settings, and 60 is just fine for me in ets2 where i just cruise arround, on other sims i always try and get a smooth 144hz, but since ets is as old as it is, its not possible with my desired looks and my hardware :D

Can't you use (one of) these settings in the config file, not sure if they only apply to the UI menus, or like if you press Esc?

uset t_limit_fps "0"
uset t_locked_fps "0"

I'm not using them, but I have a 144hz monitor, but play at 60 fps without any mouse lag, in game I have refresh rate @60 and I think G-sync is switched on in Nvidia and V-sync in game, but I'm a bit illiterate about those things :-) .

didnt know about these lines, so havent tried them.... the nvidia control panel way works though!

i dont know either why 144 monitor, with refresh rate in ets set to 60 gives so much input lag, gsync i "should" have enabled, enabled that a long time ago and never disabled it, so if it switched off it might have been a update thing on nvidias or windows end perhaps, idk...

but yeah, that input lag paired with my sim rig keyboard (wireless bluetooth one with those laptop like touchpads ) was just unbearable... hence why i was looking for advice here

now i got it locked to 60, no more jet taking off on my pc fans, and no huge input lag either!

Because 144 is not divisible by 60 .. You will probably see the best results capping your FPS to around 72-75 in Nvidia Control Panel, with your 144hz Monitor (144Hz/2=72FPS)

That can also be achieved by setting V-Sync in the game to economic. Exactly what I do with my 165Hz display as I do not need 165FPS at all and my GPU runs much cooler at 82.5FPS.
Hi, i recently had a similar problem which i posted as below, if you look up this post in community you will see how i resolved it and other comments, Malc.
FPS rates
hi, at present i have the fps set at 50 on my Nvidia card and also in my config file, Q. if they were set to different rates which would take precedent ?
