Windows 10 Directx 12 - How to downgrade my direct?
Hello everybody. The games I played, including Euro Truck Simulator 2, worked well even though I had a PC that was a few years old. My computer had Windows 7 installed and a while ago I went to a dedicated store to format it and install Windows 10. Since then, most of my games (including ETS2) simply crash after 1 or 2 minutes and only after a few tries the game works normally. I verified that my PC has directx 12 installed, which my graphics card (Nvidia GT635M) does not support. I tried to downgrade to directx 11/11.1 but the system does not allow it. I tried to force the game from the Steam launcher to run with DirectX 11 and the result is the same. Oh! And it doesn't have to do with system requirements because the same thing happens to me with games that don't ask for extraordinary requirements. I would like to know if there is any method that will allow me to have DirectX 11 on my PC system again so I can run my games without problems? Buying a new PC is out of the question.

Sorry for any errors - Google Translator.

That graphics system is 12 years old, and cannot run ETS2 at all.
It is only able to run DX11_0 and the game requires DX11_1 and upwards to run.
As reported by TechPowerup website database:
"Even though it supports DirectX 12, the feature level is only 11_0, which can be problematic with newer DirectX 12 titles."

There is no way to "downgrade" Windows 10 or 11 to any DirectX version other than the current one, DX12.

You need a new PC system, the game is soon to be updated to DirectX 12 and your GFX card simply will never be able to run it, or any other modern PC game.
But I have the same problem with games that don't require Directx 12 or 11.

All games will be a problem with a 12 years old GFX card, it is too old to run modern games.
Wishing and hoping won't change that, you need a new PC if you want to play games, even older ones.

That site seems to be weird.
A card which only supports dx 11 features will never support dx12........(dx12 starts with d3d 11.3)

@topic as already stated.... you can't downgrade from the initial system brought version.
And even if the system comes with dx12, that is backwards compatible and should include the libraries from dx9-11
The cause of those issues is cleary not DirectX. Also there's no "downgrade" required, since required libriaries will be installed additionally, when the game needs a specific version.

Not only that we talk about an outdated platform... we talk about an outdated _mobile_ platform, that was designed to run Windows 7.

Now there's another operating system installed, and it doesn't run properly anymore. It was bound to happen.

Besides that, gaming on laptops is never the best solution, regarding of their poor cooling (the root of all evil). But gaming on such a pretty old laptop with an operating system it was not made for? Even if you manage to force downgrading DirectX, it won't solve your issues.

I mean this in the most polite manner possible: it's just wishful thinking.
Did you get the GPU driver for your new OS? If not you have to install it.

Though you really should get a hardware upgrade as your GPU is below minimum specs.
Thanks for your answers. Yes my GPU driver is for that OS.
I can't buy a new pc right now so you recommend that I return to Windows 7?

No, you should not: Steam has now officially stopped supporting Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. You will not be able to access Steam if you are not using Win 10 or Win 11. Modern games will not run on Win 7 correctly. You need both up to date hardware and operating system to run current games, even older ones.

No, Steam ended support for any Windows OS older than Win10. So you will at some point no longer be able to access Steam.

Btw. your GPU is being outperformed by an integrated GPU from 2017.
