How many mods is too many?
to keep the game running smooth. Obviously depends on your specs but will too many mods be detrimental to performance? cheers

Impossible to guess without knowing your pc specs.

It's not really a matter of number of mods, but their quality. Some mods are so badly optimized that only one such mod can make your game sluggish and unplayable. On the other hand 10 good quailty mods would still be OK.

Cheers. My pc is 3.2~3.6ghz 8gb ram and GTX970. I've recently invested in a Dell 2716dg gsync monitor 2560x1440 144hz.

look at my pc specs in my profile, i run about 45 mods, 5 of them jazzycat's traffic mods and a Promods map, I get 40-60 fps with all maxed except scaling I have that on 300% and anisotropic filtering on 50%

Much depends on mods quality too, I had to remove JRL Scania mod coz it was dragging my fps down to 20-30 for some unknown reason

I currently have 9 Fred be mods, a flat bed trailer mod, a physics mod with db creation Ai mod and promods, Rusmap and Balkan mod. I get 60 to 70 fps but settings on medium low and high with gsync enabled. 200 scaling. I wish I could max everything but it won't have it and cities drop down to 30ish fps. I'm sure I should be able to do better, what do think? Cheers

Try to run a new profile, a vanilla one to see how much fps you get, if you get a lot more when maxed out and in cities, enable each mod one by one to find out which one is causing the fps drop

Oblivion and Skyrim is where all devs got the ultimate idea:
"lets make and sell an almost empty game and let the moders do our job for us for free"
Examples of such games: ETS2 (base game), ATS (base game), Spintires, Sims 3 and 4 (base games), Fallout 3/NV/4, Train Simulator DLCs gets scenarios mostly only from workshop mods and many more I can't really remember

Ultimately let it depend on what performance you'd consider acceptable. Mods may lower FPS and raise load time, but it's your call. :)

The game itself is big and good but with mod it's became the 10/10 skyrim game

I do like modable games if there are many quality mods for it like for Skyrim, but still prefer completed finished games that don't have or need moding support and where developers create quality extra content on demand and not for milking (like EA does), coz you don't get support if a mod is low quality or breaks your game saves as the moder doesn't carry any responsibility for it.
Sadly many devs and publishers chose the easy way selling almost empty games and put moding support to it, Spintires is one of the best examples of this practice where publishers sold an empty early access game and nearly pulled the plug on it.
Giving you the possibility to personalize your game is one thing, but giving you a lackluster of an empty base game is another

That sounds like a good idea thanks

Back from the death. 200 mods on my and my son's profile. Runs mostly 60fps at which I locked it. Many config file changes to like 750 mirror distance. Lod levels at 15.

When you have a mod which is interfering with the game, you have one too many :lunar2019smilingpig:

i'm currenbtly playing with nothing but base game, the ukraine dlc and cabin accesoires (I have scandinavia and viva la france and going east) to get the 100% map achievement and i'm loving it so I don't feel like this game needs any mods at all

except the fact that the cabin can be bland even with the cabin accesoires pack but I can't imagine a lot of people actually wanting to super decorate their cabins like I do.
