How do you get a password reset for the SCS forums?
I registered OK but then a virtual fight between Avast and Google Chrome resulted in my password being saved wrongly. Now it says I need to use the Captcha but that is not working at all in any browser.

The FAQ says to go to the "I forgot my password" link but I can't find that for the life of me.

Other than reregistering with a new email address (it won't let me create a new account with the same address) how do I get access to the SCS forums.

They seem to have gone out of their way to make it as hard as possible.,

There you go: https://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=118206
Edit: This might also be worth looking at: https://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=245195
Edit 2: No longer working and apparently full of inaccurate information. See the reply #7 by Mohegan13.

Thanks for the reply. The second topic makes depressing reading with all sorts of people having issues and being unable to resolve them since nobody responds.

I sent an email but if I get no response I break out the Gmail alternative email address and register again.

They probably won't respond today (as it is Sunday). But they will probably get in touch with you at some point next week.

I wouldn't expect a response today but hopefully sometime this week so I can add my comments to a thread thanking the author for a dashboard for the ETS telemetry server.

Shame I didn't see this before you sent the email. I could have changed it for you right now.

Which will lead to a ban for rule 2.1 :steammocking:

I haven't reregistered yet because I was waiting for a reply which given it is Sunday I wasn't expecting today. The threads above talk about sending a PM to an admin which is not possible if youu can't logon in the first place.
Nimir-Raj 19 ABR 2020 a las 11:12
Yeah the FAQ is rubbish, it is a phpBB default thing but the info in it is all incorrect. We have no "password reset" option because there is no emailer service on the forum, so it wouldn't work any way.

The contact admin won't work because you can't log in, and again due to the lack of emailer server a contact us forum doesn't exist.

I've also removed that second topic as it was 2 year old and full of inaccurate info too.

Because of COVID - I can't guarantee they will get to your email in a reasonable time so I have gone ahead and set a new password to the email the account is registered with.

So is there any reason you can't help now I have sent the email?

OK - clearly our posts crossed in the mists of the internet. I will go check for the email and go from there,

Thank you for your assistance :)

I received the email and tried that. I got the message :

"You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to pass the CAPTCHA test."

There is a CAPTCHA icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen but it doesn't do anything. I am used to having to deal with those of sites so expected it to ask me to do things but it simply sits there doing nothing.

Ignore the CAPTCHA message. Just use the login on the CAPTCHA page it should work. CAPTCHA is broken apparently too. :|

Just as an FYI, assuming you do get it, I would advise sending a follow up email letting them know the issue was resolved.

The reason I was hesitant to help is because I don't have access to the SCS email, I just happen to have minor admin access on the forum. So it's possible you might end up with a second password reset later in the week.
Easilyconfused 19 ABR 2020 a las 14:07
OK thanks. It is now working perfectly and I am logged on. Thank you for all your help.

I will send a follow up email so I don't get a new password again later in the week.
