Hundreds and thousands of steam games dont need to check a whopping 23gigs of files after doing a 80mb update. Thats just bad development.
Steam is botching enough updates as is. At least they try to do something against it.
Just because it's a 30Mb update doesn't mean it's imply a 30mb file that gets uploaded to a folder and that's that.
That 30Mb might contain 50 fixes to various bugs that have been reported since the last update. These fixes might involve 200 files of maybe 50Kb each, or some such.
Those fixes may be (and usually are) spread across that entire range of files in the game directory. There can also be fixes/additions etc to DLC as well.
ALL of these corrections, file updates, etc MUST be verified after patching so that the game runs as intended.
I look at it as the same as having a checksum on a downloaded file.
Agreed, This and ATS are the only game in my library that does this..
Today it verified the entire 21gb install, for a paltry 25mb update! - 25mb!
None of the other games & sims in my library do this, and they get updates just as often.
It's just pure laziness by SCS, if other game developers can manage to update a game and ONLY VERIFY THE PARTS THAT CHANGED, then SCS can too, they just dont, choosing to keep on inconveniencing their user base needlessly instead.
If you think that's bad, I dare you to have Ark Survival Evolved installed along with DLCs. Small weekly updates but Steam verifies literal HUNDREDS of gigabytes of game.
Imagine re-downloading all the gigabytes of data every time for such a small patch or in general smaller patches.
It requires a decent CPU and a proper HDD / SSD and a decent amount of free disk space (2 times the game size + temporary files for patching) to make the whole procedure not drain into a mess of oblivion or not working at all.
Sometimes it's faster to re-download the whole game than letting Steam do the patching but that depends on every game and the specifics your PC has.
