Traffic merging into me?
Is this something in europe they do? or is this wonky AI. I'll be driving down a two lane road, that merges into one. I'll have traffic from the merge lane merge directly into me and cause damage, and I get hit with a crash ticket. I can't IMAGINE it's a custom for people in the 'flow through lane' to have to stop when someone is directly beside them trying to merge. Or is this literally how it just works in europe?

Just bad AI. Traffic will literally make no effort to avoid you sometime, and appear to be on some kind of kamikaze mission!

I'm going to pull back a bit. This happens in both ETS2 and ATS. It is for sure wonky AI. As far as the game is concerned, the AI can't see you at that point and so merge as if you weren't there. They used to give way more, but as some point they were made to keep flowing. This change didn't really help.

For myself, I've been playing ETS2 for 7ish years now. I've learned to adapt to the rules of the AI. I learned when they're most likely to drive into me, what they're about to do at an intersection, merge area, exit ramp, etc. It's something you'll have to learn and adapt to yourself to avoid the crashes. Same thing applies to roundabouts. The ones in-game aren't marked that great, but the AI will see your indicators far more than they'll see you beside them.

Unfortunately it's just how the AI works. Traffic does the same thing in ATS. You'll just have to anticipate that all merging traffic will merge in regardless that you are there or not.

You are the only entity in the game capable of anticipation. Use it to avoid the accident.

I think it changed during last update few months ago. AI driver's didn't change to left lane when approaching intersection, now they do. Downside? They expect you (truck) to do that also, which is something you don't do as a truck driver. Result: Crash! Boom! Bang!

EDIT: Apparently I didn't read too carefully. OP is talking about a different thing. I guess I'll not remove my post, however.

In Germany the zipper method is advised, So 1:AAAA 2: BBBB becomes ABABABAB.

In real life, many drivers refuse to follow that guideline and go crazy if they see a truck in front of them, trying to pass it before the roads merge.

By common sense, no one should regardless of where.

Depending on car brand it also works differently. So...
1. Mercedes, Audi, Opel, BMW, Ford, Toyota
2. VW, BMW, Honda, Mercedes, Hyundai, Seat
will probably become sort of:
Mercedes(1), Audi(1), VW(2), BMW(2), Honda(2), Mercedes(2), Opel(1), BMW(1), Ford(1), Toyota(1), Hyundai(2), Seat(2)

i always thought i was driving wrong or not inside of the lines so ai didnt reconize me in the lane, because they always kept merging into me. i was confused because it started happening recently even though i've been playing ets2 for at least 13 years hadn't happened once. so yeah, they definitely messed something up with ai

No, the AI is using the zipper merge. Use your mirrors and brakes.

Sometimes the same happens in real life if you are on the road with 40-60t truck... and it is not AI driving cars (yet)... So, give space and go slow on merges coz some real life people are as intelligent as the game AI and is down to the truck driver to anticipate them or else crash...

Not exactly. They literally yield from full speed on the highway to the car wanting to enter the highway as soon as said car reaches the end of the lane that leads onto it. In return the AI cars also expect you to do the same, which no sane human would do since breaking to a halt on the right lane of a freeway gets you killed in reality.

Another thing AI does wrong is they exit the inner lane of a roundabout without watching the outer lane and then crash into your truck. They literally just exit across a lane, often times within your blind spot.

No, AI vehicles expect you to let them in. Not to come to a complete stop. And you can achieve this by using your mirrors (to see is an AI vehicle is there) and your brakes (to slow down and letting the AI vehicle merge in). Or you change lanes. You have tons of options.

What really annoys me is when an AI vehicle is attempting to merge in front of another AI vehicle and both stop as they argue with each other over who has the right of way all while blocking traffic.
