Racing wheel is a must, yes?
What say you.

A steering wheel and pedals, yes. There isn't any actual "racing" involved in trucking, but you do you, eh?

Yes, pedals come with them.

I know, but that's what they're called. There aren't any truck wheels you can buy. Plus, you can use them for any game that supports it. Such as assetto corsa.

Just be careful of the "racing" delineation when looking for a wheel. You want a wheel with at least 900° steering rotation for this game. Most racing games set and use only a fraction of that, so a "racing" wheel may only have a limited range. When I moved up from a smaller range to 900° it was a world of difference; the driving in this game was so much more smooth.

Most people on the truck sim subreddit use a g920/g29 racing wheel.

I myself use a G920. It does fine for this game. Some folks go the extra mile and buy an attachment for the shifter that allows it to operate with more than 6 gears like actual manual trucks (i.e. the famous Eaton Fuller 18 speed and the like with gear splitting and ranges, and a button for the exhaust brake. )

My understand is IRL that gated manuals as we know it are becoming a thing of the past even on newer trucks, and it's more common to see automatics with an option to allow it to operate as a "fake" manual that allows the driver to bump gears manually. Not to say what isn't already on the road overwhelmingly a gated manual still (at least in the US, Europe may have started the trend earlier.)

It's not a must, the game can be played with a simple controller or even with keyboard and mouse, but indeed playing with a wheel is a nicer way to play.

People have said its like playing a whole new game and its hard to go back to using a controller which is what sparked my interest. We shall see. Wheel has been ordered.

I know some people go one step further and use VR.

a wheel and pedal can occupy space (and budget) you may not have. a controller works well enough if thats what you can do

Yes, I agree. If you can't afford one, then obviously a controller is 100% playable. I've used a controller for a few hours and it was fine. Now, I just need to play with a wheel to see how different it is.

i've got a logitech driving force gt. obviously its a cheaper wheel, but it makes a ton of noise, mostly due to being gear driven. to be fair, with headphones on it less of a problem, but i don't think belt driven wheels are as bad, but if noise is a concern, maybe remember that concern when selecting a wheel. i don't play the game a ton (i've binged it lately mostly due to a GPU upgrade), so getting the wheel out and setting it up isn't an insignificant time sink, and i really don't play enough to justify laying real money for a decent setup. maybe thats some useful info from someone who has a wheel but rarely uses it, but remember this is just some random guy's opinion.

Man, I can drive Pagani Zonda just fine with my keyboard only. You're not from this reality, if you think I can't handle MAN as well...

As someone who used KB, then M+KB, then controller, then a wheel over the years, I found controller to work okay, definetly a more budgetary alternative to a wheel until a decent mid range wheel (like the G29/920 and thurstmaster equivalent) can be financially justified.

Aa someone who plays quite a few driving games, the wheel payed for itself. Just a little annoying when playing a few unity games like My Summer Car and The Long Drive, in which it feels like the pedals don't respond until they're depressed about 50%. A well known issue with driving games with that engine.

Lots of people uses keyboard and mouse and they witness that they have no problem with that.
Lots of people also uses controllers and witness its a step up.
Same for a wheel (900 degrees is a must imho)
I used to do simracing a lot earlier in life, wich I cant anymore unfortunately for health reasons, so I already had a decent setup - Thrustmaster 300RS, modded G25 pedals and a 3 screen setup and a real racing seat. I also had TrackIr. Overkill for this game I know but I cant play this game without TrackIr. If I start it up whitout it I immediatly close the game and start TrackIr before playing.

TLDR; Every step up from kb/m is a game changer.
