What about the UK?
I was just wondering, when is the UK going to get an overhaul? It feels like other countries and packs have been updated, such as Germany and even some of the Balklans which are new. But why has the UK been forgotten? It feels like it's been the same for ages

Any news on future updates on the UK Map?

It will be the last country of the base map to get reworked. So you have to wait until then.

It is going to be handled in the same way that they develop a whole new map DLC, So it will be built from the ground up with a dedicated team and research teams will start the work long before any developer starts building assets. Many expecting Northern Ireland and Ireland with a massive build to replace everything on the existing map.

Germany has taken 'forever' to get to the point that it is at. SCS have been growing quickly for future development work, they are now over 400 people covering all parts of running a business. They have outgrown their massive building that they have been in for many years and are soon to move to a new building - next year?

Work on new building (not owned by SCS):

We get Switzerland soon and perhaps then Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg will quickly follow - could they knock these out in 2024? Perhaps, don't expect anything until 2025 as a realistic time scale for UK/Ireland.

Going East map likely coming after UK rebuild.

I can understand that it takes time to design and re-work a map. I was just unsure as why the oldest map is the last to get a rework. I'm looking forward for any updates on their redesign of the original maps.

Czech Republic is part of the base game and "might" (speculation) come after Switzerland since its where SCS is based out of. Its also more or less the "middle" of Europe and may have a fair amount of player drive through it for Going east, Beyond the Baltic Sea, Road to Black sea and soon West Balkans DLC's.

The United Kingdom is not directly connected to Europe nor anything else and is the least likely place for players to drive in - through unless your starting there OR have a load going there. Germany is more or less the center of the base game and the older DLC's so it was done (motorway wise) first. Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Benelux, Eastern parts of France and Western parts of Poland (yes parts of Poland are base game) are all directly connected via landmass and are heavily traveled by players compared to the United Kingdom.

The UK will get a revamp - remaster - remake (its really bad possibly the worst) when the rest of the base game is done for those reasons. I would assume that there are plans and possibly some minor work done for the UK that no one that knows is allowed to talk about.

I think it’s both. You get some of the country in the base game and the rest in the expansion. Same with Poland, Italy and France.

No, Czechia is complete in the base game - that's why in my achievements profile it is still 99.99% discovered. I drove the 100% achievement on the base map only 3 years ago and since then only one border crossing I still have not used since the Austria rework is taken from it.

It will probably come up for rework last among the base game content because, as mentioned already, it's "off to the side" of the map and doesn't see any transit traffic as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the first three countries to get reworked, do (notwithstandings the small parts of Italy and France that were part of the base game and were to a degree reworked after their full-country DLCs came out), and also because it's to a different scale than the rest of the map and I'd expect it to be done from scratch and to the 1:19 scale of the rest of the map.

Don’t understand at all why they did it like this … all it does is give us a reason to avoid UK jobs because they take longer. Seems odd.

Because it was a standalone game. The base map of ETS 2 consists of:
- German Truck Simulator standalone game map
- Austrian Truck Simulator map extension to GTS
- UK Truck Simulator standlone game map
- Benelux to fill the gap between. I do recognize some scenery still from ETS 1 there, but as that had a smaller scale it was streteched somewhat, like ATS in its early months.
- Switzerland, Czechia, parts of France, Italy, Poland, and the city of Bratislava, probably to attract players from more countries, especially in the "sliced" ones, without extending the game too far.

So it was not made this way by purpose but by recycling existing data.

When I first bought this game I didn't know what to expect. Thought I would start in my home city of Plymouth in the UK and it looks nothing like it, even leaving the city the game shows zero look a like and heading up the A38 could be some motorway anywhere in the country, anywhere but here. Was disappointed to say the least, thought there would be some realism if only a small bit. UK sure does need a rework.
DanielHall15 Aug 22, 2023 @ 6:41am
They missed some real chances to give players the rage with the same three prefabs all over the place. The way the A14 used to clonk into the M1/6 split with a pair of miserable roundabouts would have been such a great addition to the game.

And Switch Island. I want that from the rework. :traffic_light:

@MirkoC407 - thanks for that info, didn’t know that.

Spaghetti junction
Westminster/Tower Bridge, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament
The Angel of the North
Dartford Crossing bridge and tunnel

Just some things among many others that should be in the UK and aren’t …

I get that it can’t look exactly like every place in Europe due to space constraints etc, but for example when you drive through the Sicilian cities they look like actual cities and are much more detailed, even if they don’t look like the real thing. London looks like nothing, like someone just quickly threw a few factories down on a Minecraft flat world.

Really enjoying the game but true there is a huge gulf between older and newer build quality.

Oh and there are no ridiculous lorry queues for Dover, totally unrealistic xD
