Germany has taken 'forever' to get to the point that it is at. SCS have been growing quickly for future development work, they are now over 400 people covering all parts of running a business. They have outgrown their massive building that they have been in for many years and are soon to move to a new building - next year?
Work on new building (not owned by SCS):

We get Switzerland soon and perhaps then Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg will quickly follow - could they knock these out in 2024? Perhaps, don't expect anything until 2025 as a realistic time scale for UK/Ireland.
Going East map likely coming after UK rebuild.
The United Kingdom is not directly connected to Europe nor anything else and is the least likely place for players to drive in - through unless your starting there OR have a load going there. Germany is more or less the center of the base game and the older DLC's so it was done (motorway wise) first. Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Benelux, Eastern parts of France and Western parts of Poland (yes parts of Poland are base game) are all directly connected via landmass and are heavily traveled by players compared to the United Kingdom.
The UK will get a revamp - remaster - remake (its really bad possibly the worst) when the rest of the base game is done for those reasons. I would assume that there are plans and possibly some minor work done for the UK that no one that knows is allowed to talk about.

Don’t understand at all why they did it like this … all it does is give us a reason to avoid UK jobs because they take longer. Seems odd.
- German Truck Simulator standalone game map
- Austrian Truck Simulator map extension to GTS
- UK Truck Simulator standlone game map
- Benelux to fill the gap between. I do recognize some scenery still from ETS 1 there, but as that had a smaller scale it was streteched somewhat, like ATS in its early months.
- Switzerland, Czechia, parts of France, Italy, Poland, and the city of Bratislava, probably to attract players from more countries, especially in the "sliced" ones, without extending the game too far.
So it was not made this way by purpose but by recycling existing data.
And Switch Island. I want that from the rework.
Spaghetti junction
Westminster/Tower Bridge, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament
The Angel of the North
Dartford Crossing bridge and tunnel
Just some things among many others that should be in the UK and aren’t …
I get that it can’t look exactly like every place in Europe due to space constraints etc, but for example when you drive through the Sicilian cities they look like actual cities and are much more detailed, even if they don’t look like the real thing. London looks like nothing, like someone just quickly threw a few factories down on a Minecraft flat world.
Really enjoying the game but true there is a huge gulf between older and newer build quality.
Oh and there are no ridiculous lorry queues for Dover, totally unrealistic xD
