Couple of Problems I've Been Having
I got a steering wheel, partly for this game, and I'm having some issues with it. Not sure how to describe the issue, but when I turn my wheel, it does not directly turn the truck as a real steering wheel would, but rather it turns the in game wheel, which makes maneuvering in tight spaces very awkward. How do I change this? I played Motor Town: Behind the Wheel and it did not have this issue, so I know the issue is not my wheel.

My second problem is the narrow passageways I often find myself having to navigate, not easy in a truck, and certainly not easy with the aforementioned control issue. It's possible that if I fix that issue, this won't be such an issue. Still, does anyone have any tips or tricks for this, or perhaps a mod that widens entrances to cargo depots a little?

Would be nice to know what wheel you have, other than that there are several settings in the controller setup you can play with.

I think it's this one, the "HORI Racing Wheel Apex for Playstation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC". What settings exactly?

That wheel has a max 270 degree rotation, you may want to look into that, I'm not familiar with that wheel, but I believe it can be tricky to set up as the game tmk is made for 900 degree rotation or more.

Basically that wheel is meant for race games.

At least make sure you have the dead zone adjustment of your wheel on smallest setting and try to play with ETS2 wheel setings. I found you tube video for you too that seems to about your wheel.

I looked in Device Manager, and it seems my wheel got detected as an "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows", which is absurd. That might explain my problem, but I have no idea how to fix this. Searching for drivers just gives me the same one. I tried searching for drivers online myself, but I could only find an older model.

My Drift OZ steering wheel/pedals has always been recognised by the game as an Xbox 360 controller, it doesn't make any difference for setting it up in the game. It is just the generic name assigned for this type of controller.
Make sure it is plugged in and calibrated in Windows devices, then use the game settings to adjust the deadzone, sensitivity, linearity etc. I believe you have to disable Steam controller input to stop Steam interfering with the game settings.
Even racing wheels with a 270-degree turn can be configured to work fine in ETS2/ATS, but it's difficult to give you actual settings, everybody has different requirements and all the wheels themselves are different, even if they are all seen as a generic Xbox controller.
Experimenting and tweaking the settings is what will fix it.

If you get completely stuck, I could screenshot the settings page for my Drift OZ wheel, but it may not be that helpful, as I said, they are all different.

Okay, this is embarrassing but it turns out it was in gamepad mode, when it should have been in wheel mode. Not sure how I missed that setting but as I suspected, it's far easier to maneuver now. Still frustrating at times but it's not near as bad as it was. I'd say this wheel works great with the game now. Hardly even had to fiddle with the settings after that.

So yeah, turns out I was just being daft. Thank you all for the replies though.

One more thing. It seems that the pedals correspond to L2 and R2 on the wheel, and the back buttons correspond to the square and X buttons. Is there any way to get all my buttons to register as different buttons? I did a workaround by simply not using square, X, L2, or R2, but it would be nice to have these buttons too.

I think I just went to the keyboard assignments on options and unticked the assigned key for the function you want, then pressed the button on the wheel you want to use for that action.
I have headlights on/off, indicators, cruise control on/off and increase/decrease speed, horn, camera view, full screen map view, and wipers. Still a couple of buttons not used.

Hi I have the same wheel and it seems that my brake pedal doesn't always respond and I have to end up using L2 what could be the problem as my wheel is brand new so the wheel and pedals isn't faulty thanks
