And from the size of the dev team and the pace they're releasing each map expansion, I'd say it's still gonna be a good while so don't hold your breath.

Hmm would be awesome though ..

The game could use a big server aswell, so we all that do play this game can play in the same gameworld instead of only peer to peer limited game worlds !

Seeing that Convoy has dedicated server support:

I would say this is likely going to happen in the future. But if you expect the TruckersMP MMO style then this very likely won't happen.

Well... if you have a game, that supports DX and Vulkan, you try Vulkan and never look back to DX... just saying...

Apparently the new game engine was set to be released at the end of 2022 but was delayed to 2023.
A dev is talking about it in this video:

A.P. 101 is literally the worst souce you can have. While it is true that Prism3D was made about 2 decades ago it is NOT the same version as back then. There have been multiple improvements and upgrades to the engine made in that time, which they fail to state thus causing the false impression that the game engine today is the same as from 2 decades ago.

A.P. 101 is mostly just doing clickbait videos and absolutely not regarded as a source around here.

No, the game will not go to UE5. SCS also wants this game to be able to be played at entry level and low spec PCs.

How in the world does that awesome BMW (it's actually my fav. car, but not in that colour) look better than any SCS truck?

granted the video is of quite poor quality, but still.

By using hardware that the GPU alone costs $700 on its own these days.... Ok, sarcasm aside, there's a lot of stuff that goes into a game engine, from how light rendering casts shadows, reflections, etc... Not to mention that depending on how ray tracing is implemented, can bring even the most expensive GPU down its knees. (I'm looking at you Cyberpunk 2077, which can bring even a 4090 down to its knees..)

I imagine that the majority of people who play ATS/ETS2 don't have such hardware. And with prices continuing to rise, it's getting more and more expensive to get even a half-decent GPU that can even do ray tracing. I'm stuck on a 1070 because I'm not paying the nVidia tax to upgrade. Nor do I even have the money to get a new $700 GPU right now.

Either way, I don't think SCS will even bother with Unreal anyway. They have their own engine that they know inside and out as they coded it from scratch two decades ago. They can't simply just switch engines unless y'all want to wait the 5+ years to get new licensed trucks in, limited brands, EVERY mod having to be completely made new from scratch, buy each new DLC one-by-one again, etc... Oh, that's not to mention the training they'll have to do to the staff in order to switch internal tools to a new coding method and the money spent to do that. And, SCS would, likely anyway, pay royalties to Epic if the game makes $XXX amount of money in a fiscal year or something.

Yeah, I think SCS has something good with Prism3D. Not every game has to have ultra-realistic-see-the-pores-on-humans-epic-high-definition-textures to look good. I've not liked the trend in some games trying to make them super-ultra-epic-pretty and yet have some of the shallowest gameplay imaginable. (not always the case, but tends to happen)

Of course it would look awesome. The only problem is that only folks with high end machines would then be able to see it. Doesn't seem like a sound business move to suddenly drop a large portion of the player base just to have HD quality textures everywhere...
