Is ETS2 worth it without DLC's?
Hello.
This game is on sale rn, but i dont have enough money on my steam account for the essentials bundle. I was wondering if the game is even worth it without DLC's.

yup Its actually easier to get achievements starting out with just the base game then just add dlc's as and when

Its definitely worth it. The most relaxing game ever if you like to cruise from one country, or town, to another.

I mean if it's worth it without DLC?

Also not buying any DLCs and just using the base map/game will give you a good indication if you want to keep playing.

When I originally got it, a bit late to the party, I was unsure if I would play it much, I only got the base game.

It has turned out to be my most played game here on steam. I gradually added all the DLC and buy any DLC as soon as it is available now. I also got ATS and all the DLCs as well.

SO IMO I think it is worth getting.

Yes it is. Everyday of the week!

And if you buy the essential bundle later on you dont have to pay for the game included, just for the items you dont have.

edit: There is a demo to try out - Try it :)

I'll bow down to these guys who have more than 500 hours in each title but no one has mentioned you WILL be buying the dlc pretty soon. The base game is very basic and small in map. If you like driving properly you will benefit from both promods and multiplayer which require the expansions.
I'd go into this game with a very long term view both in terms of time and money invested.

Honestly, no. Most of the base game still has the old map assets. Everything looks the same. If you get the expansion, you get much more detailed, bigger and unique cities. Base map, you're driving through the same highway and back roads in almost every country.

But that's just one man's opinion. I say give it a try, watch videos on the DLC maps and see if you want it. If you're going to be spending hundreds of hours in the game, the choice is simple. The more map to explore, the better.
not worth without DLCs, because it is lesser fun than with many DLCs.

just get mods thats all you need if you want

I'd say probably not, even though I'm pretty sure the base game in ETS2 has more then ATS's base game, it's still not that big with the only big countries being UK and Germany. Another thing to note is that the countries in the base game are quite outdated, with the only countries that got a rework being Austria and bits of Germany. Places like the UK, Switzerland, and Benelux look quite underwhelming. I'd say if you're going to get it, you should probably get the Going East and Scandinavia DLC's as well, those are also a bit old but expand the map a bit more.

Did you miss all the updates to the original game map? The ones that SCS are still doing? Germany, Austria etc? Try reading the blogs and update notes, you'll see they are committed to improving the whole base map, even the UK. All for free , by the way.

I know they are, just like they have been doing with ATS. But there is still a long way to go. From what I've seen there have been a few updates to the old map, but most of it is still the same. You can even see where the new road textures meet with the old.

I'm just on the base map right now, as I am working on the 100% map completion achievement. From the Wiki,

"Excluding downloadable packs, the base game features Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, north-eastern France, Germany, northern Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, western Poland, Bratislava in Slovakia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom."

There's plenty to drive around on, your experience will still be satisfying.

Playing without any map DLC was worth 3 weeks. Then I feel like losing interest and started gathering map DLCs. Since then I could keep playing without getting bored. Even if I stop playing for good right now, I already played it for half an year so the map DLCs are already pretty worth it.

I bought Cabin Accessories a week after buying the game though. Now that one is a must-have imo.
