All of these things contribute to me getting the most out of the game that I can, but I fully respect (from afar) how ever anyone wants to play as long as it doesn't interfere with me :)
I'm the same. I stick to the speed limits (with a 4mph allowance for a dodgy speedo :)). I try and not cause accidents with the crazy AI, take my rest breaks, repair/service my truck at appropriate intervals, and I always deliver to the customer; sometimes late, but better late than never.
I listen to LBC while I'm driving in ETS2 (C&W music stations when i'm in the states).
I do have a rather large pot of virtual cash which I use to buy and configure whatever trucks I want, and to make use of the quick travel functionality.
Other than my international teleporting, I like to keep things as immersive as possible; no dead end barriers, no bright green icons, real companies, gas stations, and liveried AI trucks.
I have built up a decent rig with wheel, pedals, gearshift, range/splitter, button box, parking brake, head tracking, remote info centre etc. Having gone to the bother of putting that lot together, I want my driving experience to be as real as possible.
I follow the same pattern...it really helps with immersion...and it's fun.
If I want to speed, I play Forza, BeamNG or Assetto Corsa, or whatever other racing sim
If I make wrong turn on highway and detour would be very long, I might back up a bit or try to figure out something dodgy.
Sometimes the voice gps has wrong instructions and if you don't have gps, it can lead to problems. Like there are some 3 way splits where gps says to take right lane, when actually it's the middle lane. Also it doesn't always count those xxx closed roads and sometimes does. So in few places you might turn according instructions and face wall of x's.
I just like seeing how fast I can deliver someone with minimal damage, with the crazy AI it can sometimes cause crazy situations which I enjoy.
