Braking during cruise controll
hey truckers.

So before this update. i was able to brake by just simply decrease the set-speed on my cruise controll. truck automatically breaked down evenly to my new speed.
This dosnt happen now. it dosnt brake at all. So i assume it has something to do with the retarder thing, my truck has a retarder. How do i make the cruide controll brake as before ?

Nothing as change for me, the CC still trigger the retarder.

You've got mods ?
CMDR.FREEZER 12 ABR 2016 a las 3:32 a. m.
i do have mods yes, but i dont see how they would conflict this fuction as i only have cosmetic mod. No mods that alter engine and stuff like that.

futher inspection it do break, as the breaking lights turn on. but its not as hard braking as it used to be. cant find any slider that would increase the automatic cruise controll breaking. Is there any ?

the cruise control breaks with the retarder and/ or - since the patch - with the engine break, if you enabled it ... it doesn´t use "normal" breaks, so you should make sure that your retarder works as intended (double check if you have a retarder-gearbox installed).

ETS2 has close to no breaking power on the engine/drive train itself (means deceleration when you let the gas loose), so the truck will just keep rolling and not loosing much speed on straights, rather become faster downhill, if nothing like retarder or engine break is active... (that is actually a bit better in ATS, but that just btw) ...

look through your options, maybe some of the settings (like automatic retarder and such) were changed, which never happened to me personally, but i know some people experienced changed settings after updates...

Not every mod author is going to go through the hassle of uploading to the Workshop. Long live the external pages! :steammocking:

@OP: They adjusted the braking intensity when stepping down the CC. Previously some of the trucks would get out of control when slowing the truck this way.

I honestly dont remember how my previous settings where set. but both Engine break and the Automatic retarder was not checked. I dont know if they were before. allthough it dosnt change anything. Very very slow braking during cruise controll. like i could drive before useing only cruise controll, didnt have to touch the breaks as it was breaking quite good just by decreaseing the set-speed on my cruise controll.

Maybe the update has done something with that breaking thing ? made it weaker"Because its more realistic??) or something.

Well its quite a severe change then. cause pulling 20+ tonns and useing the retarder is kinda pointless now. cause i would need half of europe to break from 80 to 50 :p

Wish they added a slider to witch we could personally adjust that.

A slider would be nice. But prior to this update if I dumped the speed from 60+ down to 30 or so my Peterbilt in ATS wanted to jack-knife. Was quite scary the first time and I got turned into oncoming trraffic once or twice doing this, as well. Don't think I've had that problem with the Ohaha Volvo (in either game).

Going to be fun taking my scania up in 120 pulling a 80 tonn lokomotiv with this new retarder system.....think i'll stay away from that until i learn how to break manually.......i dont even know where that botton is....hahaha :P

Well, the update really seems to have messed around with that. I don't have too much problems, though, with braking with CC. That still seems to work. I just tried it. But I don't have a really weighty trailer at the moment, so maybe I would notice a difference with some more tons behind me. But you really need to use the button for engine brake differently. Before you pressed it once and it slowed down the truck to a crawl quite quickly. Now you need to press it constantly to do the same - so you better configure one of the buttons on your wheel for this task. If you know it it's not much of a hassle. And since it's still a strong effekt you still don't need to brake with your brake pedal unless it#s a real emergency.

uhm, cant speak for ETS2...but in ATS on my 13 speed retarder in the W900 everything is okay... i mostly drive by adjusting cruise control, and i see no difference to a few days ago...

Well, after having driven a longer route I have to admit that braking with CC really is a lot less effective than it was. Also the engine brake is a lot less effective, even if you press the button constantly. I reckon it's more relistic this way, but it is certainly a different way of driving, and I need to accustom to it.

My point exactly. Not sure if i like that particular change but, i guess i'll get use to it ;)
