In the game, you can assign any recognized controller you wish to any available command. So if both wheels are recognized, then you can assign whichever axis from whichever controller as you like. Connect wheels, joysticks, game controllers, up to four simultaneous items I believe.
The game will probably automatically assign things from the primary wheel, but you can go back and customize that to use things from the secondary wheel/shifter/pedals.

I highly doubt he has a G29 or G920 to connect it to, because then you wouldn't need (or want) to use the DFGT. So no, you can't use it standalone. Well, not unless you're good with electronics and can build your own HID controller for it.

thank you for the answer

Most likely the answer to that is NO.
Logitech G25 shifter cannot be used with the G27 for an example, and those shifters aren't stand alone.
If you want them as standalone you need to buy 3rd party software.

i have just purchased the driving force shifter for my G29 for ETS2 the drivers are all up to date and the LGS shows that the shifter is conncected, ETS2 however does not show it being connected not matter how many times i replug it in, restart my desktop and reinstall all drivers and the LGS. ETS2 simply does not recognise it as being connected, any solution?

i have been searching online for about an hour and a half now and have not found a solution.

It's not a separate device. It's just a number of buttons on the G29 device.

so then why are they not working?

No idea. If I plug it into the wheel (either the G29 and G920) then I can map the shifter positions to anything in ETS2 as regular buttons.
