I don't see any update beside the one that I downloaded from the official site.
Not sure where you are looking.
http://www.promods.net/compat.php
Nope, using whatever is out now; I never opted in for the beta (and honestly I wish I could update only if I want, instead of being forced to)
I'm using Promods 2.02 and it's working perfectly, for me.
I'm not sure about TSM, yet. I don't know if it is updated to the current version of ETS2. In that case you should revert back to 1.22, for TSM.
But most importantly, unless you've put drivers and trucks into mod map garages, you can easily turn off a map mod and continue with your profile and saves, you don't have to start over.
If you DO have drivers and trucks in mod map garages, move them and never, ever put any in mod map garages ever again - it's a really bad idea. You can buy garages in mod map cities for fast travel but don't populate them.
FYI there is a fix for TSM that works with 1.23
"ProMods 2.02 – Compatibility update for ETS2 1.23 is available now!
April 20, 2016 Releases
The update to Euro Truck Simulator 2 version 1.23 changed some map assets and mechanisms, which caused ProMods to crash at several locations and led to broken navigation on many jobs. With this update we’ve made our mod compatible with the latest version of your favourite simulator."

This time though; I crash after little gameplay time. I did try using my previous profile, tried to remove mods one by one and see which was crashing, and it works only when removing Promods or TSM.
I have this game since ages; I do know that the game does not support mods; and I have no problems with that; but since ETS2 is basically dead, because all the development time is now on ATS (which have maps that are different from ETS2, so even if they run the same engine, the assets are not interchangeable; so all the time spent on ATS does not benefit ETS2 necessarily).
I did find no way to stop getting updates; there is no option in the game menu nor in the settings menu, to NOT receive automatically updates for the game. You can opt out of beta builds, but not on the main game updates. If there is a way to do so; it is not clearly defined in the settings.
Also how do you continue a game, when you started it using mods? Each save game has red exclamation points, when I try to load it say that it needs that specific mod to work (which is understandable when you talk about maps mods for obvious reasons); I did try continuing a game without the mods and the game crash anyway.
I am fine staying forever with 1.21 or 1.22; whichever was working before, since I have both TSM and Promods and neither was giving me problems before the last update of the game.
Are you subscribed to any beta? if so go back to the normal 1.23 game version and and use the latest promods as of writing.
ETS is not dead, first of all they ere working on a new map expansion in France, check their blog at blog.scssoft.com
ATS using different assets thn ETS2 does only matter to map building, not to core features like the upcomming advanced trailer copling thingy or the AI for example.
To opt-out of updating your game their is the following workaround provided by scs:
When a new update is out instead of letting steam install that go to the beta branche in steam and sellect the beta of the desired game version, not only the most recent ones but also older ones.
To continue a game with mods after updating your game you simply replace the outdated mods with versions of that mod that are made compatible with the recent game version and ignore the red exclamation mark. If the author of the mod does not provide such an update you're out of luck
Well, as mentioned multiple times, I do not have any beta, I have the standard game. I did download the latest patch that they have on promod side; it does not work neither with a new profile nor with my old one....which is why I did post here :) So to make the point again: no beta, standard version, latest promod = no work.
A game with no updates related to the core gameplay is in fact a dead project, but if there was no mod support; it would be abandoned years ago and probably not even sold anymore. I am not discussing if the game is alive or not; it doesn't really matter from my perspective, since I still play games from companies that are dead since ages (like Freespace 2, or Test drive unlimited 2). If there will be more DLC for ETS2, that's good; but if there were no mods; probably this game would have been put away years ago. I am happy if they make it better of course, but I won't loose sleep waiting for a new map.
I prefer to play the mods, since they give me what I was expecting from the vanilla game; but this is a totally different topic.
So to stop getting the updates, you have to opt in the beta, and then choose the build that you want to use?? I can understand now why there is no way to figure this out looking at the options...it is the pinnacle of counter-intuitive for sure.
I am aware that I can update the mods, the issue is when a mod is not updated anymore (like TSM for example, but there are plenty). In a comment, Thogmar did mention that you can continue the game anyway; which is why I did ask...I know no way to actually continue a game where you were using mods, especially maps mods.
