There's a nice new bundle with the release of Texas, i'd get that and a few map dlc that connect with it.
Driving the unrefurbished parts of the base map (The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Britain, Germany off the motorway network and Hannover City, Czechia, Poland, Hungary) is a very deep drop. That is nearly 13 years old stuff from German Truck Simulator and UK truck simulator and equal "quality" to fill the rest in. Even California and Nevada in ATS started already at a higher level, being of roughly the same age as the France DLC for ETS2. And since then quality has moved roughly equal for the games and California rework is also undergoing.
I personally also like US trucks more than European ones, but that is personal preference in the end. And I also like the US landscape more. Being Central European myself I can have the real thing easily by stepping in front of the door and maybe do some 1 or 2 hour flight. To see the US West Coast, Nevada desert or Colorado I need to sit in a plane for 10 hours and more each way. So it is more appealing to drive through these landscapes virtually.
And I'm sure, the next 3 posts will contain 5 more opinions and in the end you know as much as before.
Both games have Free Demo versions you can try .. Only YOU can determine what YOU like better.
As others have said, get the demos and see for yourself
i like that, smaller roads, more intense driving
1 - The trucks are different.
2 - In ETS2 the roads and vistas are more varied and beautiful, in ATS the towns and cities are more detailed and interresting.
