There's a free demo for ATS, driving it yourself is the only way to know if it's to your liking.

There's a nice new bundle with the release of Texas, i'd get that and a few map dlc that connect with it.

Well to start with, ETS2 has a lot of sceneries, apart from some old ones in UK and parts of Scandinavian Europe (Denmark, Sweden, Norway) but its a lot better and very vast compared to ATS map, ATS though is improving with its sceneries with its new map DLCs, they have come a long way now after they started with California, which also has been rebuilt a part of it, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada still leaves a lot to be desired, but if map expansions and sceneries is what you are after then there is nothing better than ETS2, with its SCS map itself very vast and huge and if not satisfied with it, then you can add Promods Map expansion which literally improves and expands UK, adds a lot more cities and a lot more sceneries and beautiful roads and literally the map is what you wanted (well almost) and still not satisfied you can even add the Promods Middle East Add on, which adds up parts of Middle east countries too, I would say you would never get tired of with ETS2 with Promods expansion. Promods is also there with ATS, but with only Canada, which is not as vast as they have done for ETS2, there are other map expansions too with Mexico maps and Coast to Coast, but nothing comes close to the quality of work done by the Promods Team. I would suggest to just go with the base game first with ETS2/ATS and find it yourself and then go with the Promods, you will get to know the difference yourself first hand.

There cannot be any recommendation unfortunately. I will now directy oppose to the previous post. While indeed you see the age of some areas in ATS as well, it is overall of better quality.
Driving the unrefurbished parts of the base map (The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Britain, Germany off the motorway network and Hannover City, Czechia, Poland, Hungary) is a very deep drop. That is nearly 13 years old stuff from German Truck Simulator and UK truck simulator and equal "quality" to fill the rest in. Even California and Nevada in ATS started already at a higher level, being of roughly the same age as the France DLC for ETS2. And since then quality has moved roughly equal for the games and California rework is also undergoing.
I personally also like US trucks more than European ones, but that is personal preference in the end. And I also like the US landscape more. Being Central European myself I can have the real thing easily by stepping in front of the door and maybe do some 1 or 2 hour flight. To see the US West Coast, Nevada desert or Colorado I need to sit in a plane for 10 hours and more each way. So it is more appealing to drive through these landscapes virtually.

And I'm sure, the next 3 posts will contain 5 more opinions and in the end you know as much as before.

For me the Euro Truck is better than ATS. This is my opinion. :)

Both games have Free Demo versions you can try .. Only YOU can determine what YOU like better.

The simple answer: If you like the idea of driving the roads of Europe, where cities are closer and the trucks are smaller, go with ETS2. If you like the idea of driving a big rig, over long interstates and open highways, go with ATS. Graphics wise, they are based on the same engine and both are being constantly updated.

As others have said, get the demos and see for yourself

ATS has many things, ETS does not. Wide open roads, that go on forever. Scenery that is awe inspiring. Lorries that are beautiful. The challenge of punting a Kenworth around The United States Of America, and Canada is great. It has it's own merits, that can not be surpassed. ETS2 is an outstanding example of what a driving simulator should be. The scenery is immersive, challenging, picturesque. Having driven round Europe in the real world, as a Trucker, I can honestly say, it is as near as it gets to the real thing. The lorries are amazing, detailed and each one has it's own character. Driving along the coast in Portugal is as wonderful as driving along the Autobahn in Germany. The atmosphere in the weather and the change of day to night is outstanding. I think it unfair to compare the two. Because by their very nature, they are miles apart in content and simulation. For me, I love jumping in my K100E and driving 2000 miles to deliver the goods. Likewise, I love getting in the Volvo and driving the long road from London to Istanbul. I love every minute of ATS and ETS2.

I would personally say after experience I prefer ATS over ETS base game because the scenery is better and it just feels more immersive. This has nothing to do with my nationality because i'm from the UK. I feel like ETS doesn't have enough detail in certain areas for example the UK, they keep on with their DLCs all the time but never actually put work into places which need it. This is unlike in ATS, they quite often update the base game states to make them much more immersive. Another thing to add, for some reason my PC runs ATS better than ETS. I do have all map DLCs for both (except from Texas as it only came out yesterday.) I would say the best map DLCs for ATS are Oregon, Washington and Idaho. I basically bought those as soon as they were out and I have been happily trucking around them for a few years now. I would also suggest if you get Oregon to get the forestry machinery pack as there is a lot of logging around those areas. I hope that helps

3 times more peope play ets..it is way more divers, eveyr country has its own traffic signs.
i like that, smaller roads, more intense driving

ATS map is much better detailed imho, but smaller than ETS. There are many country/rough/hidden roads in ATS. Big part of ETS map is very old and like 70-80% of all map is just highways. The only plus I see in ETS - large amount of truck tuning parts

I didn't realise there was all that logging, Cheers for the heads up.

Essentially the same game, watching YouTubes should show you which scenery, trucks, and driving conditions you prefer, none of which are better or worse. Pure preference. And I'd add that in ATS Oregon is my least favorite state, followed in the least favorite list by Washington and Idaho. It is just a question of what you like :lunar2019smilingpig:

Basically the same game but with two differences:

1 - The trucks are different.
2 - In ETS2 the roads and vistas are more varied and beautiful, in ATS the towns and cities are more detailed and interresting.

lol the person on american truck forum said the opposite. he said ats maps have better scenery since they came out later than most of ets maps
