Bought on Gamersgate, key not provided...
So I thought I'd use this forum as gamersgate dont have their own for some obscure reason. Anyway, I bought the game on gamersgate in the sale, 80% off gold edition, processed payment, all went smoothly. Then I get a message on the game page in my library to wait for 10 minutes to get my key, a small annoyance but I waited. Next, click retrieve key, I get the error that they have no keys left and they are "getting in touch with the developer for more keys as soon as possible", which clearly means I'll be waiting days or weeks for a key.

So, pissed off I can't activate it on steam, I go ahead and download it directly from gamersgate, only to get ingame and hit a wall of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ DRM, asking for an activation key or to play the game in demo mode...

Long story short, paid £4 for the demo of the game, probably have to wait weeks for a key.

Never had a problem with DRM (I purposely avoid ubisoft and ea games in general) until now, finally understand why people hate it :/

I've never had a problem with DRM with anything, including ubisoft and EA. In fact, most of my games are probably EA since they put out the most good games. But I never buy games from some shady shop like Gamersgate. If they are selling things without having them, that is on them. it is not a DRM issue, it is fraud on their part.

Gamersgate is not a shady shop.
And if it is fraud when they run out of keys, than steam itself would be a fraudulent site too, since the same thing happend a lot of times in sales here...(and will happen in future sales for sure too).

If they run out of keys and keep your money, that is fraud. I have never heard of steam selling you something and then saying, "too bad, so sad".

If Steam runs out of keys you get also a message which says "getting in touch with the developer for more keys as soon as possible", which is the same as on gamersgate now.
If the Developer/Publisher can't deliver any keys and then they keep you money it would be a fraud.

they cant sell you something thats 'out of stock', cause they've nothing to sell, so they shouldnt have taken your money.

What would be better in that case....stopping the sale so people can complain that they could not have bought the game for the saleprice, or continuing it and providing the keys a few days later?

I think at the very least they should have notified me of them not actually having the game in stock, before I paid for it, rather than take my money and essentially say "whoops, our bad". Probably would have still bought it on offer anyway, but not telling me I can't play until its back in stock, before paying, is a prime example of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ customer service and how to make sure they wont be getting my money again :/

I agree, if they are out of keys then they should let you know before you are charged for it so you can make the decision to go ahead and wait for more or not.

Running out keys is the same as a retial store running out of stock. If the retail store is out of stock they don't charge you and tell you to come back next week when the next shipment comes in. They tell you they are out of stock and not charge you.

Chris, thank you for posting that the game was on sale for 80% off at GamersGate. I decided to buy it from GamersGate as well. This is my first purchase from GamersGate. My purchase had to be manually reviewed and approved which I didn't know was standard procedure for first time buyers from there. Some hours later, it was approved. Now I am in the same situation that you (and probably many others) are in. We have to wait until the developer provides more keycodes and keep checking our GamersGate account periodically to see if we have keycodes yet. I'm assuming that when we receive our keycodes for the main game and for the Going East DLC, all we have to do is just activate them through the Activate a Product on Steam section. I'm guessing that the keycodes that are provided can be used to either add the game to your Steam account, or they can be used to activate and play the non-Steam version of the game as well. So people can choose for themselves what version of the game they want: The Steam version or the non-Steam version.

Again thank you Chris for bringing this sale to my attention. And I hope that we get our keycodes very soon

yup, that is all you have to do.

Chris, I have now received my keycodes on my GamersGate account. And I was able to activate both of the keycodes on Steam just fine. Check your GamersGate account and you should have your keycodes now. All you have to do is load Steam (which I'm assuming you have done already), then click on Games (at the top), and then click on Activate a Product on Steam. Then just copy and paste your keycodes from your GamerGate profile. You can only do one keycode at a time. So you do your Main Game Activation Code first. Then do your Going East Activation Code right after that =)
