Why do you give way inside the roundabout in some Russian cities?
I just got the Baltic Sea expansion and headed to Russia. To my surprise, I found that you had to give way when INSIDE the roundabout, which is the exact opposite of how virtually other country does it (give way to traffic already in the roundabout).

Is this a mistake or is this how it should be? I was driving through St. Petersberg and the roundabout gridlocked because everyone had to give way inside the roundabout. I had to push a car away to get off the roundabout.

Not a mistake, it's how it should be and realistic. It is the difference between a roundabout and a traffic circle. Roundabout: the spokes give way to the traffic in the circle. Whereas a traffic circle it's opposite rules: the circle stops and gives way to the spokes. The most well known traffic circle is likely the one in Paris around the Arc de Triomphe.

I was pleasantly surprised when I first came across them myself. I'm glad SCS decided to model traffic circles accurately rather than just copy/pasting roundabouts everywhere. I imagine it does confuse people who aren't familiar with them, since traffic circles aren't very common anymore.

Yep, I could swear I've seen it (what you describe) in other countries as well.

Correct lawful way: If you are traversing to the third exit, you take inner lane, or if more lanes, you take second lane from outside. And there should not be any traffic on your outside because of the first two exits clearing for you. If you are taking first exit or second exit, you enter in outside lane. Anything joining the roundabout has to wait to give way for whoever is already in it.

Whereas in this game it's all backwards. It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. I hate it and it is completely wrong, should be outlawed on pain of death. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

This is Russia as well, where every single road user is completely smashed to ♥♥♥♥ on Vodka.

it could very well be how it should be, i'm not russian, nor have i ever been there irl, but where i live on most roundabouts you have right of way when on it, but with some it's the other way around, or at least that was when i got my license 30 years ago, that may have changed, not paid much attention to it and it's been a while since i drove every day,... can't wait to get a car again, but it may be another year ..

I just looked on Google Maps, and to my dismay, there is a roundabout in Russia where traffic entering has the right of way.

I think the give way inside roundabouts in Russia is a realistic thing in the game.
When I was young we also in Denmark have give way inside roundabouts, and we change that in 1977.

Damn right answer.

But how do you tell the difference between roundabout and traffic circle?

Road markings and traffic signs mostly.

> Roundabout
>> give way to people already in it
>>> thick lines on the perimeter, blocking from entering

> Traffic circle
>> give way to people entering it
>>> thick line in the circle, blocking from going forward

Now in Russia there are Rules similar to European, that is, the ring is the main road, and at the entrance to it, there are signs "Give way", but this is the default rule, in some cases, other signs can be put where the ring will not be the main road, all of the specific situation in the area.
My English is bad, I am writing through a translator, so I apologize in advance. :-)

Well, in Poland we had that also but that have changed few years ago, basically when you were on roundabout and had a vehicle on your right side you had to give him way. Now we have signs before roundabout that you have to give way to all vehicles on the roundabout.

What about people that enter at the first exit and want to exit at the third as well (meaning the second exit from their point of view)? They will be on your outside.

The basic rule, at least here in Ger, that most people aren't even aware of is:
If there are no traffic signs then you have to give way to the vehicles coming from the right side, if there are traffic signs it's usually the inside that has the right of way..
And almost all of them have signs (which is why nobody knows about that rule :steammocking:)

I can imagine that applies to Russia as well..

This is from Russia and had to do the save+reload thing in order to get going again. Russian roundabout roulette now with traffic jams. :steambored:

I think I have never saw a traffic circle here where I live. Here people are having trouble with a simple roundabout, if you give them a traffic circle besides roundabout it would be total carnage on the road :D :D

Imagine the fun they could have on our magic roundabout[www.google.co.uk] in nearby Hemel Hempstead (I believe there is another similar one in Swindon) where a large roundabout where six roads meet has a smaller roundabout on each of those legs such that you can go either way around the big roundabout.
