Rest duration and EU driving hours
Is there a way to edit how long a typical rest/break takes in game, because it seems at the moment to take about 6 hours which if required in the middle of a job instantly makes me late.
I would love to be able to configure it for EU driving hours (45 minutes break every 4.5 hours) and the working time directive (9 hours driving, 11 hours daily rest and 56 maximum working hours a week)
Any ideas or mods, or anything would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Sleep is set at 9 hours, after about 11 hours drive. Those can be modded from economy_data.sii but I'm not sure if someone made possible to mod it further.

Cheers, I have realised my error there, they just don't have the 45 minute Break every 4.5 hours. But this is a "break" and not a "rest".

The only data involved here is the number of minutes driving and the number of minutes resting. You can rest multiple times in a row - 3, if memory serves but there's no way to change that aspect -
I've often wondered if you change rest time to 5 and drive time to 1435, would 5 minutes 'sleep' reset your fatigue completely? :)

Tested it just now, went to sleep with 8h0m until next rest and in 5 minutes sleep it jumped back at 11h0m. The fade to black screen last about the same so time advances slowly : )

@Clydon - I can only suggest a mix of modding and role playing, to get as closer as possible to your schedule. Sure the 45 minutes break would become a chore as you would leave the game running for about 135 (real time) seconds while avoiding to stand completely still : /

I meant change the econony_data file from this:
maximum_driving_time: 840 # how long the driver can drive (in minutes) sleeping_time: 600 # length of sleep (in minutes)
to this:
maximum_driving_time: 1435 # how long the driver can drive (in minutes) sleeping_time: 5 # length of sleep (in minutes)

There is a workshop mod called "ats fatigue simulation for ets2", that gives more realistic driving/sleeping hours.

Others have told you how to mess around with the duty cycle but my observation would be that this statement should never be true. Freight Market, Quick Jobs and Cargo Market jobs all adjust to cater for your need to sleep so you should never be late due to stopping to rest when you need to do so. An urgent job with a border crossing or a lot of back roads can end up pretty tight, but otherwise you should have plenty of time whilst driving at normal speeds and obeying the speed limits.

@Room - Had the feeling you were not going to be satisfied so easily so I kept the mod around >: ) Changed it as per your request, next rest time jumped to 21h0m (because how fatigue is stored internally) and after a 5 minutes sleep it reset to 23h55m. It works, have faith : D

BENS EASY MODDING will allow you to change the rest duration. It is easy to install and use.

I agree with $poster. For a trucking simulation not to implement EU rules is bizarre.

It's not like resources explaining how breaks/rest periods work, so the documentation is not a problem. Work hours, however, may be a problem, because AFAICS these are not implemented.

But a full, EU rules compliant rule set would be an awesome addition to the game.

That is mostly because it wouldn't be at all casual and the scaling would make these small rest breaks absolutely annoying.

Would it now?

ETS2 is awesome at simulating the drive, no question about that (I mean I swallowed it whole, hook, sinker, line, cane and fisherman), but I am sure there is a place for people who actually want to taste what a trucker really is like -- regulations and all. Heck, ETS2 has inspired people to get into the job, so why not make them experience the job, the real one, if that's their calling?

Because that is only a tiny minority. The vast majority is playing the game casual in order to relax. Turning it into a truck driver simulator (it currently is a truck simulator) would push a huge chunk of the playerbase away. They are simply not interested in having the trucker experience.
And as for "just make it optional":
Whatever is optional for the player is mandatory for the devs to implement, bugfix and maintain. Not to mention that they need to adjust the map to have enough rest spots so that you can actually do that.
