In ETS2/ATS you go from A to B to deliver a load.
Could see something like a car driving game working if it's a taxi/uber. Small van delivery (Amazon) to households.
For a driving sim, IMO modded GTAV (after completing the main story) would be hard to beat.
In terms of simulation features, BeamNG is probably the best and most realistic for random driving. Also has a strong modding presence just like the SCS games and GTA5. However, without mods BeamNG does lack a single open world map as large as GTA5. And GTA5 has other things. I'd say GTA5 for roleplay and being able to do more than just driving, but if you want realistic simulation, BeamNG is the way to go.

I've been wondering why those were in the game.
But if Bus dlc(s) is coming to ETS2, I would buy them with smile on my face
How about vans and taxis? Beeing able to drive 120kmh most places in europe on highway and in some places autobahn with no limit?
Yeah they would have to create new ones for both I guess.
At present there is a huge map for both games, but what do you want to be able to do, because just driving doesn't hold anyone's interest for more than a handful of hours before they get bored and move on to a different game.
This has been an issue for years with a small number of car mod users - they don't stick around and the mods don't get a proper update. Most handle like trucks and are not fun to drive either.
There is nothing like it today and a "cargame" a la SCS could fill that gap - with all essential game mechanics already in place (wheel/gear/pedal support, day/night/lights/indicators, fuel and damage systems, convoy (mp), voicechat etc, etc.
Major obstacle could be brands and licencing if going with real brands + how to implement some kind of meaningful economy/credit system that suits such a playground.
