Anyone here become a truck driver after playing this game?
Title. You played this game, and then you decided to become a trucker IRL.
Im currently looking at ways to get a truck driver education and job.

Anyone out there want to share their story?
Did you just get the license and start driving for someone? or did you go the education route?
Was the job like you expected?
What was the biggest supprises in the daily routines?
etc

I was a lorry driver and company owner before this game came out. I specialised in Heavy haulage and dangerous goods. ETS is as near as one will get to driving the real thing. There are some lessons you can learn while playing. To be honest, it will take you a week to get your license, but years and years of driving to learn the job. It's not an easy job, but it has it's rewards. I saw most of Europe, went to places I never knew existed. I met the most incredible people. If you are young and fit, it is an adventure. Every day is different. There are down sides. But I will leave you with the positive. Good luck. If you need any advice I'm here for you.

So many questions... However to drive you need the basics.
To drive a commercial vehicle u need DVQ = Drivers Qualification Card.
this permits you to drive a commercial vehicle.
Also the correct class of vehicle example a C1E
Then you need to get ya digi card of Drivers Card. That is required.
I could mention Tachgraphs. Yes they still exist. & filling in manual entries...
However if you are willing....Some times things do not got to plan...
But at the end you are responsible for load / height/ Hrs

I love it.

Was it difficult to have all the street rules of all the nation in mind? I also could imagine that different nations does have different rules regarding rest.

It was a nightmare. The first time I drove through France, I got totally lost. And I got pulled over at least three times for not abiding by the law. Fortunately, on the continent heavy goods drivers are treated with respect, unlike the UK. It's a huge learning curve. Both here in the UK and in Europe. Everyone makes mistakes, the first is usually driving down roads that you haven't checked out, then finding you got to reverse all the way back out. An old saying. "Look before you leap". The job is a vocation, recognised by government as a profession. And in every way you are. You have the ability to cause utter carnage if making the wrong decision. Without road haulage, in all it's forms, society would come to a standstill. Shame people in general, do not appreciate what drivers do, day in, day out.

used to be a driver, but didn't like the work/life balance, games provide me with my fix to drive and enjoy scenery while I can do a less exhausting, less time consuming, less dangerous job

this game shows a bit of how it really is, in order to make money you need to be on the road or away from home for most of the day/week/month/year, spending so many days/nights away from family, friends and pets and hobbies that cannot be moved is not for everyone, certainly not for me anymore
Here in UK its a very unthankful job, services are rarely close to motorways and toilets and showers? hard to find. Really bad services
Europe mainland has much better services and parking for drivers and they are mostly not off the highway and very small gaps between them too

being a professional driver is not just a job, its a calling like being a postman or postwoman, a very important profession until drivers get replaced by AI and that won't be anytime soon, someone will still need to sit in the cab and supervise plus take over if AI fails
