SCS is not a AAA company who can afford that. And the game also doesn't have any other income ways like the games you mentioned have. And giving away something for free while having expenses and no income flow is a sure way to go bankrupt.
I mean there are many DLC's in the game and there is also the other game ATS, and it's DLC's and many of their previous games. I know it's not much, but there is some income for them. ;)
Maybe a 10th anniversary paint job for veterans or something idk
Edit: Besides, why wouldn't you want to pay for the game?
Okey i got it. It just could be so awesome that how many more players could play the game.
+1
Not everything needs to be a subscription. Even less games for which the content of said subscription is something you get for free when you bought the base game.
Imagine SCS doing this. They will lose so much of their playerbase that it will be less worth it than the current model. Not to mention that there is nothing that will save the game from negative reviews.
So in sum: If you want to quickly lose a ton of players and burn your company to the ground then this is a great idea. But if that is not what you want then it is a really bad idea.
This is already a plague for (most) recent games, if you want people to stop playing (like me), this is the way to go.
I hope you're not talking about me, because i have the game and the hardware too, i just said that more people could play the game if it would be free.
Making a paid game free is one of the worst ideas possible which will just annoy existing players that bought the game and they will be even more annoyed if other stuff, which was free before, is now paywalled because you need to make the lost money back in some other way.
