Embrace the slow paced gameplay, the game is better for it.
I don't see a compelling reason why external contracts should be the exception. That being said, I think this is ultimately a trivial issue. Even if you absolutely hate going 'slow' for whatever reason you can take contracts of short distances to knock out the event in a relatively small amount of time.

Since the restrictions are pretty realistic, i see no problem there. This is not a racing game.
You ignore the fact, that you don't have to drive real world distance... i would consider this a compensation for people with too little time for a videogame.
