Euro Truck Simulator 2
bonkers nuts physics bug.
Ok, I'm playing on linux and have to launch the game in safe mode. I used a cheat to unlock my XP and am doing extreme long hauls to get my funding up.

This is a NEW lightly modded profile, only a few engine and transmission mods. Most of the mods I had were profoundly stale and the developers seem to like going out of their way to break them so they'll never work again...

I have some wide tires on my rear axle. I have already put about 3.5k miles on the rig so I'm not too worried about them.

I have matured as a player and instead of getting a heavily modded 8x8 chassis and 760hp engine and pulling 70 tons around I realized that most of the freight in the game is under 20 tons so I built a truck to excel at pulling up to 20 ton loads. I put a Iveco with the stock 450 hp engine and a mod Alison 7-speed with 3.5:1 on the rear end. The truck only needs fuel ever two days and the gearing is pretty much perfect.

<insert clip of Gollum from The Two Towers complaining about having a governer governor. around his neck..> On the other hand I kinda ignore speed limits and just ride the governor in 7th gear instead of bothering figuring out how to set cruise control...

my point is that I picked up this 18 Tn trailer that I guess has little bottles of motor oil in it and drag it from Istanbul of all places and drop it off in Jolly old England... Well the pay was right...

One of the problems is that when it comes to a stop it tends to get stuck and will not roll forward. If it doesn't roll in reverse either, I have to decouple it and re-couple it again before it will roll again.

When the game autosaves and I have to re-load that save for some reason, the save gets completely broken if the rig was in motion (any speed) . It will spaz out, fall through the map, and/or accelerate to the speed of light or freeze the game solid.. (seeing 120% cpu utilization, probably 1 core maxed and 20% load on a second core.)

The only saves that can be loaded are the ones where I just woke up from a rest-stop.

Thats not a bug. ive heard that all Iveco Trucks do that IRL. :P

seriously, thats messed up, and if youre 100% sure its not a mod causing it, then theres a developer thread to report bugs like this on the main ETS2 discussions page.

:longhaul:
The only way to be sure it isn't mod related is to recreate this with a vanilla profile, one that has never had a mod active.
Full disclosure: My linux machine went through a few weeks, after an update, where it would not load any steam games at all. A later update seems to have fixed the issue though there was never any clue as to what the actual problem was. Many of the same games would run fine from the console, just not through the steam client. None gave any error messages. The symptom of the "normal mode" ETS does match the basic symptom -> Instantaneous crash back to steam client after launch attempt with no console output or logs of any kind anywhere to be found.

My trip from hell has reached the English Channel, I'm at the Chunnel. Basically what the game seems to be doing is saving state at the departure point and then loading the game at the arrival point, at which point physics completely bugs out and the client effectively crashes. I have taken the tractor on ferry rides but I'm becoming more and more confident that the trailer is causing the issue. I believe the trailer is part of the DLC that includes Istanbul, I have no active trailer mods. To the extent I can pan the camera around the rig, there are no visible issues.

Is this a longer trailer with slightly over-size load? I think what may be happening is that the spawn point in UK hasn't been updated for these trailers and when you spawn in the trailer is colliding with the train car behind you. As a work-around, you can take these longer trailers across using the ferry instead of the train.
