Honest Opinion About Gaming Chairs?
I’m 190cm tall and I’m getting a sore neck and back pains when I drive.

I only have a regular office chair and I drive with a G29 wheel.

Are these gaming chairs worth the money and do they improve posture or is it mainly marketing spiel?

Used car seats are a good option and cheaper. Just build a wooden base.

Do you know what guys, I still keep looking at gaming chairs Online but can never bring myself to buying one. I should really buy one because I'm using an ordinary kitchen table chair at my PC which is not good for my posture but the reviews for every single gaming chair I read Online are so mixed that I'm always put-off spending the money.

Personal opinion from owning one for a year now... You will get a better quality executives chair with lumbar and posturing for less... I have a ThunderX3 TGC22 and am in two minds to keep it or not and go back to a exec chair.
Would I buy another.. NO.

Yes same position here. And as Karli says probably a supported office chair with lumbars is up to the task. I have a neck cushion but I’m not sure it’s making much difference.

I sometimes wonder how these professional full time Twitch streamers manage to game for so long without serious pain.

Theres some other things to consider here. If you have a good office chair, but sit at a regular table or desk you'll still have problems. I had the same issue. What worked for me was: I shortened the legs of the table that my monitor sits on and the wheel attaches to. I raised the monitor with some thick books and then but the chair to lowest position. This way I sit lower, but a bit inclined instead of hunched over. The best option as mentioned is to get a car seat and build your own rig that way you can make it to fit you.

So in a nutshell the optimum sitting position seems to be lower so you’re looking up at your monitor?

How low exactly are you in relation to the top of your monitor?

This will be challenging for me because I am 190cm tall and I can’t lower my steel-framed computer desk.

Also can you still reach and use your keyboard from that position?

As mentioned earlier, a used car seat is the best. Make sure it works so you can adjust the angle for your back - that is for me the crucial thing to get a perfect angle while driving. If im not playing I adjust the angle more straight so I still have support for my back.
About height for the screens as Dim67 says, its better to look up a bit or straight instead of looking down.
The wheel angle position is also important, you might need to put in something - a wooden plank or something - in the back under the wheel so it is pointing a bit down. That way your arms are in a more natural position so you dont stress them and also your neck/shoulders.

I read in another thread its always best for your posture to hold the wheel at 6 o’clock when possible and not the top of the wheel.

To get a good posture its all about angles of every part of the setup - the wheel, your seat, your backrest. Thats why it is best to have a used car seat that you can adjust when you build it for your specific needs.

Edit: The angles for your legs and feet too of course.

I know that Paul "AKA Squirrel Youtuber and Steamer" use a chair from this site and he is very happy about it and he is also about your size. They are not cheap but maybe you can find one there you can use.

I've been using a La-Z-Boy executive chair from officemax (i think) for over a year now. Best chair I ever had. Still as plush and comfortable as the first day. Lumbar support is a little lacking. It was $175 on sale. Sometimes I wonder if I can stay cooler if I had a mesh chair. I get pretty hot in this thing; then again my room gets hot.

The gaming chairs look overpriced to me. Also, they .....dont' look good. When it comes to driving games, it would be so nice to have a real car seat and a mount to get everything situated with it. Something like maybe those 'GT Omega Apex' wheel stands.

For now, it sounds like you need to find a more relaxed posture tabten. Holding wheel by 6 o clock would be a good start. Relax your shoulders, get a small pillow behind your lower back. Good luck.

By the way, do you use a trackir? I always got such a stiff neck trying to control those things. Just something about consciously moving my neck just enough but not too much.
best advice is go to stores and TRY THEM OUT .... try as many as you can because everyones different right . Me i have back problems so i have a lazyboy so i can alter the pressure on my back by reclining ... you may not be old and broken and can handle any type .. but let me tell you .. gaming chairs are not something you want to spend HOURS AND HOURS in ... you will regret it ,, ive had one yrs ago ..took it back on the 3rd day cause it hurt my legs ,, too much pressure under my thighs . Everyone that uses em on YT thats a tech will tell you not to bother , Just try them all out before you buy . You may find a 40$ chair thats perfect or a 500$ chair thats perfect . ITs all about you and your needs and Use of . cheers
