Shader pre-caching, Y/N?
What will turning this off do? I use a STRIX GTX 970.

Shader Pre-Caching. Whenever possible, depending on hardware and driver support, Steam can download pre-compiled shaders for your specific video card. This reduces load times and in-game stuttering during the first few launches of OpenGL- and Vulkan-based games on supported hardware. This feature may use a small amount of additional bandwidth as Steam uploads and analyzes a shader usage report after each run of the game. The feature can be disabled via a new entry in the Settings dialog.

So for me using DX11 it does nothing to help me.
As shaders are also very small the download is no issue for me if it is required to download at run-time.

I don't know what any of this stuff means. So, ETS2 /ATS are open GL games?
If so, should I be launching them in open GL?

In layman's terms, if you have the bandwidth just let Shader Pre Caching it do its thing, its harmless and benign. ETS2 and ATS are Both but on windows the primary API is DX11.

okay. However, I live far out in the counrty. The ONLY option out here is cellular
internet. So, I only get 1-3 MB speed. Am I just screwed?

I've turned Shader Pre Caching to Off. If you're using DX11 you don't need it On.

Sorry I should have said the data capacity for continual updates 😳

Sorry, I've a significant stroke and 3 TIA's...I don't know what "capacity for
continual updates" means.

Will updates which occur frequently be a problem for you in terms of data usage or time required for updating...fast internet and no data cap, no worries. Slow or data capped internet, a potential concern.

I'm not capped, thank god, but with 1-3 MB's it takes about 1-5 hrs. for the ETS2 & ATS
updates and 10-15 minutes for the game to load. With that being said, should I turn it
off and see how it works? Or just leave it alone and keep waiting for better internet to
come out here.

As these shader pre-caching are only a few KB it should be done pretty quickly (I have 50MBit/s at max (but mostly 30MBit/s) which is about 6MByte/s (or about 3.5MByte/s for the other speed) and it is done pretty much instantly on my end).
