Best way to expand the ETS2 Map?

I have played ETS2 for a while and I started to get bored with the map.
I bought the game with "Going East" DLC and I have only explored about half that map, but I will not be dissapointed if I never make it to Groningen, Netherlands since it is not really a big city and all the cities in the vanilla game and the "Going East" DLC are the same. I have about 12 garages placed in the biggest cities already like Luxembourg, Berlin, London, Warsaw, Prague, etc

I am planning on buying the Scandinavia DLC when the holiday sales roll in, but I saw on YouTube and Google that there are maps that have cities in western France and Spain and go as far east as Moscow. I know they are using some sort of 3rd party modifications, but I am a noob when it comes to modding, so I have some questions that I hope can be answered.

They are as follows:

1) Are the mods from safe websites or could they contain viruses?

2) Which mod contains western europe (western France, Spain, southern Italy, Portugal, etc) and which ones contain eastern Europe (Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, etc)?

3) Will installing the mod cause me to have to restart my character or can it just be added on?
(I don't mind restarting but I want to know)

4) Are the mods buggy, and/or will they cause a performance drop on the game? (I have a mediocre laptop with intel i7)

5) Will getting mods clash in any way with the Scandinavian DLC when I get it? (Also, are there mods for northern Scandinavia? It seems the DLC is only on the south.)

Western France is currently being worked on at the moment by SCS and should be out soon as a free upgrade I believe.

1) Currently the top map mods are Trucksim and ProMods. I use ProMods and have downloaded it several times with no problems or virus alerts.

2) Neither mod is probably going to have everything you want so you are going to have to make a choice. Trucksim covers a large amount of territory, but is very limited in the visual department. ProMods covers most of Europe and a few outling areas, but their claim to fame is attention to detail in that there is alot more "stuff" to see in their mod.

3) I can't speak for Trucksim, but I did not have to start over when I installed ProMods.

4) As with mods in any game they are never going to 100% bug free. I have come across a few bugs here and there while playing ProMods, but they weren't game breaking. Mods that add more land to the game will increase the load on your computer. You may have to crank some settings down to get a good framerate if your computer isn't up to the task.

5) ProMods does not clash with any offical DLC and it adds roads and cities in northen Scandinavia.

To add to what Vamandrac said: Both Trucksim and Promods maps require you to have both Going East and Scandinavia DLCs installed in order to use.

Thanks for the advice, I will wait until I get the Scandinavia DLC to get mods since it seems it is required.

Would the new France DLC interfere with other 3rd party French mods? I am pretty sure it will. I am looking into RusMap for eastern expansion and I will wait on the western expansion until the new DLC is out.

The major map mods will update to fit the new France dlc once it's released within a few days or less.

Okay, thanks I will keep that in mind. What is your opinion on RusMap? It looks like it only has Russia (well it should, its called 'Rus' Map) but are there other mods that are better for eastern Europe? I am mainly looking for detail and diversity in city design.

I don't have it but you can add rusmap to ProMods.

Okay, I will experiment with different mods and I really appreciate the help. I think I will wait on the major expansions until the French DLC so that the mods can be updated. I will try out ProMods after I get the new French and Scandinavian DLCs when the big winter sales go on. I will use RusMap now just to get the hang of installing mods and seeing how they run. If it works, I will continue to expand the map beyond. Thanks for answering my questions.
