steering wheel dead zone
Hi all,

I bought a steering wheel on some advice, a Logitech heavy equipment bundle, but I cannot set it properly.
My issue is that the dead zone, is just ..mmm... incommensurable/incredible...
It is around 21° each side (left/right) symmetrically.
What can I do to resolve that ? (any parameter to give steam command line with a variable value ? or anything else ?

regards.

first off i would say callibrate the wheel.

In windows, hit start menu, write joy.cpl and hit enter. Now calibrate it and see what that has for effect.

An other option is adjusting it ingame.

I already tried to see if there was a calibration tool from logitech but not

for info I also tried to check if it was both detected & pass-thru from hardware (linux /dev) to software (proton version of wine (it is the windows-emulator (and official steam version)))

so that's great the controls file : global_controls.sii confirms it is also ok in-game
I think also all variables from the main config file : config.cfg are just OK

I'm not that experienced with linux so i would simply do a search: https://www.google.com/search?q=steeringwheel+calibration+linux&rlz=1C1CHBF_nlNL922NL922&oq=steeringwheel+calibration+linux&aqs=chrome..69i57.8333j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

And then a link will popup to a steam guide for steeringwheels with linux:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2063066708

Other then that no idea. Good luck.

I try the windows joy.cpl but it looks to have a very little less dead zone. But still huge :)
Cotaks Mar 1, 2021 @ 7:32am
If you have calibrated it, and the deadzone is still huge, then RMA the wheel, something is wrong with the wheel itself. A deadzone should not be more then like 2 degrees max. so a lil bit to left or right like a millimeter or 2 max. if it's around 20 degrees that is huge and something is just not right with the wheel.
hackintoshchap Mar 1, 2021 @ 7:59am
When you set up the wheel in the controls section - at the top of the menu you should be able to select the wheel, pedals and button box. You can also from there set up the wheels and pedals. The following settings are for my Logitech G920;

Controller Subtype - Wheel
Transmission-Real Automatic
Steering Sensitivity 100% (slider to the right)
Steering Non linearity 0-10% depending on your preference.

Steering Axis - Joy WheelAxis
Steering Axix deadzone 0% (slider 100% left)
Steering Axis mode - Centred

Acceleration Axis - Joy Accelerattor
Acceleration axis deadzone ~0 - 5%
Acceleration axis mode - Inverted
Click 'Joy Accelerator' button and depress accelerator to set up.

Brake axis - Joy Brake
Brake axis deadzone 0%
Brake axis mode - Inverted
click 'Joy brake' button and depress brake pedal to set up.

Keys and Buttons menu settings - make sure that no steering settings are set to any 'joy' options

On the Secondary controls set wheel paddles for
Shift up - Right Paddle
Shift Down - Left Paddle

Can be, but probability is low as far as it's quite new :)

Yes exactly what I tried a few minutes ago (I don't think I missed anything now) but result is similar

In order to help community I opened up a ticket on one of the setup tool https://gitlab.com/OdinTdh/pyLinuxWheel/-/issues/17
goblinrieur Mar 3, 2021 @ 12:28pm
cross tested :
- used a T150 thrustmaster on my pc from a friend: OK
- using the logitech on another PC similar issue
- using the logitech on a console wheel is ok but not pedals in that case...
- then tried T150 thrustmaster with logitech side panel & thrustmaster pedals ) OK
- also tried T150 with the pedals of the logitech one (need rj12 rJ11 connection adapter) works also

brian_va Mar 21, 2021 @ 10:55am
using the logitech on another PC similar issue
windows or linux? same distro/kerenl?
what distro and kernel are you using to test it?
cat /etc/os-release
and
cat uname -a
if you aren't sure.

did you try either oversteer or pylinuxwheel as suggested in the guide? did either recognize the wheel or let you change the deadzone?
babayaga Mar 21, 2021 @ 11:05am
bro ı have same problem but ım fix it
decuments-ets folder - find your save folder
open control.sii with notepad

find this : c_steer_dz 0.000000 (+more dead zone) (-kill dead zone)

fix it

babayaga Mar 21, 2021 @ 11:07am
my confing config_lines[18]: "constant c_steer_dz -0.050000"
