The game itself has [oculus] after the title on my library page, and I did put -vr on the launch options to test this, but did not try -oculus - I will give this a try as soon as I get home and report back. Thanks for the tip.
I just wish I could get it running on Quest2 now, to see what it looks like without the screen-door. It *must* be possible. I would have thought all you need to do is disable the Oculus drivers with tray-tool and stick -vr on the launch options. Every other Steam Vr game works fine - so, not sure why is not the case here.
Still, thanks to you suggestion, I am up and running again.
It *almost* works.
I changed -oculus into -openvr
Then I disabled oculus services (always makes me feel good!)
Ran it from the desktop (it does not launch from within Steam VR)
Running from the library, it boots up SteamVR and the game launches.
Problems:
No sound
Gamepad not detected. Keyboard not detected, no cursor.
So close! I will mess around tomorrow.
-Launch ETS2 via Steam through Virtual Desktop
-Hold down the left controller menu button (three bars) until the Virtual Desktop menu comes up
-Click "Switch to Desktop"
-Check if there are any Steam pop-up windows open i.e. I've been getting one that says something like "ETS2 does not support VR and will run on your desktop..." If so, close the pop-up by clicking okay
-Make sure ETS2 is the in focus program by clicking on it in the taskbar.
-Bring up the Virtual Desktop menu and click "Switch to VR"
This is what worked for me and I have been happily trucking with my Quest 2 through Virtual Desktop for weeks now! Best of luck!
ETS2 looks great without the screen-door.
cheers guys.
However, before risking money on upgrading my Rift S to a newer HMD I want to make sure I understand what you are talking about here, therefore, I'd like you to clarify a few things for me:
So Summelar, what do you mean by:
A) "Launch ETS2 via Steam through Virtual Desktop"? That you click on the tab "games" in Virtual Desktop and you add there the steam client as a game and then you click it and you start ETS2 from there as you would, had you started the steam client normally (from outside the Virtual desktop)? and
B) By "launch ETS2" you mean that you wait until you have gone past the initial ETS2 menus and are sitting in the truck cab and now you must hold down the L-Controller's menu button? And then the Virtual Desktop menu with the options you mention comes up on top of the ETS2 window? (which means ETS2 must be running in windowed mode and not in full screen?)
Thanks
A) I launch ETS2 through Steam on my desktop while in Virtual Desktop, the same way I would any other non-VR game (by opening my Steam Library and clicking the Play button). ETS2 does not show up in my "Games" tab at all for some reason.
B) You do not have to wait until you are sitting in the cab, you can go through this process as soon as the game menu comes up. I don't think you need to be in windowed mode either as the Virtual Desktop menu should always display. I'll check on that though and edit this post if I find otherwise.
Hope this helps!
Oh and you can use the Quest 2 controllers as a gamepad in ETS 2 by enabling setting emulate gamepad in the input tab under VD.
