The trains!! The trains!!!
I have my traffic set at 10 so I get plenty of traffic on the road which I like! However, when you come to level crossings and trains there can be loads of trains one after the other and you are stuck at the crossing for ages!! Both real time and in the game. On a freight run you can just jump out of the crossing and move away but in external contracts you're stuck!! IS there a way to reduce the level of trains? I don't really want to reduce my traffic value as I like the amount of AI traffic that is in the game.

Unfortunately the g_traffic variable affects ALL traffic, which includes trains. The alternative is to use a mod that changes the rates of individual spawning values for everything else. There are several mods in the workshop that do this for you. Increased traffic, unchanged trains. If you use one, make sure to follow their instructions, they may require you to set your traffic back to 1.

I have had trains just stop on the track where the railroad crossing is. Like the train got scared of the ai traffic on the road. I had one instance where a train was sitting a good distance away from the railroad crossing. It refused to budge and just sat there.
Of course the cars began to honk behind me and I had to quit the game at that point.
And when the trains move it happens at slow speeds. :steambored::steamfacepalm:

You'd have to make a mod, or if you already have a traffic density mod make changes to that one.

Thanks for the answers!

I've had this happen a couple of times. train coming up around the bend and just stops. after a couple of minutes it starts moving again.

I n the workshop there is a mod called "Train Fix for Realistic Traffic Density and Ratio by Cipinho" In the comments section, he also says which exact entry to change in a traffic spawn file to lower train spawns. I checked my associated game file and it already is the same value as he used. the value he uses was .015 IIRC. So it may have to be even lower, like .010.

I can't help any more than that cause I am just now starting to learn modding in this game.

Here is his exact comment on what was changed: "This mod rewrites only a single line in the data files. If you want to write it manually, go to def/world and find traffic_rules_spawn.sui. Inside the file find "traffic_rule_data : traffic_rule.s_train" on the line 1370 and there you will see "num_params[]: 0.020 # frequency" on the line 1379. Just change 0.020 to 0.015 and you will have the effect applied!"
