Is steam cloud save sync basically a lie?
I had to format my previous HDD because of the corruption. And now after reinstalling the game there's no ways to restore my profile even when it was additionally synced to world of trucks. After not getting finding anything in game I googled it and it seems you actually need all the save files on your PC to load.
Worst of all i have older save files but they also wont load. Is save system in ETS the worst? How come they say its steam cloud synced?

Did you remember to enable Steam Cloud for the game again? If its not enabled by you it wont sync to the cloud for your saves and instead looks in your My Documents folder.

it was activated, but the internet says it's actually not working

Your profile is not synced to WoT, that is just to record WoT jobs online, nothing else.

For Steam Cloud to work, you must enable it in Steam AND in the game. There are still back up files made, but if you formatted a hard disk with no back-up and no Cloud save enabled, then your chances of recovery are slim to non-existent.
Your profile shows you in-game, and not too many hours played, maybe it is a good time to start again with a nice clean profile and set up the Steam Cloud save, as well as using manual saves to your PC and regular back-ups outside both of those storage systems, on a USB drive or external drive.
Keep your hard drives defragged (weekly) using Windows and always have at least 10% or more free space on drives at all times, especially on the C: drive.

I have been using one profile on the Cloud save for over 1,000 hours and countless saves, so if done right, it can work perfectly.

Yep 140 hours in single player game is nothing. And all those PC advice rly gonna help me restore my profile for sure. I don't remember what was in the in-game settings for my profile. But what kind of stupidity is that you need to check twice on cloud for it to work?

Cloud has worked perfectly for me, lets me go from computer to computer, performs as advertised. You can always occasionally do a local backup if it makes you feel better :lunar2019smilingpig:

Next time you have to do a Reinstall of windows or ETS2, make sure you make a backup of the whole map of ETS/ATS in "Documents " to a Backup HDD as i always do. I made the same mistake once, learned from it, and now i make a backup of the ETS2 / ATS maps on a External HDD before i uninstall it for a reinstall. Might be even a better plan, if you're an Active driver, to make a back-up every month. Just to make sure all your hard earned miles are saved. Remember , this is only a tip. I'm not telling you what to do. Hope this might help you

Or just use cloud save...doing both is of course the proper "belt and suspenders" approach. Given that the OP thought that somehow WoT was asving his profile, we're thinking that he had not done a cloud save at all.

Can also confirm Steam cloud sync works for both ETS2 and ATS.

It isn't unheard of that some Steam users, especially for those who connects the Internet with a rather unstable wifi network, will turn off the Steam cloud syncing feature becuz it slows down their game startup and shut down time(the program retries multiple times to download or upload game save data). And that's usually when this sorta 'I lost my saves after I switched PC/hard disk' topics pop up.

I have a possible theory of what may have happened.

If the profile was made before SCS put in Steam Cloud was implemented, then the default for those specific profiles will be off for cloud saving. It only defaults to enabled after the patch and is a new profile made afterwards.

That isn't to say one couldn't just simply edit the profile and enable it for those "legacy" profiles, just that's how the defaults were.

This is just my guess, but currently it makes sense to me. I don't recall what patch added in Steam Cloud to the game off hand.

Any data you don't have a backup for is data you may well not have. Any backup you haven't done a test restore from is a backup you don't have.

All you had to do Before you replaced the drive was back up your ETS2 folder that's in your Documents folder to a flash drive or an external drive and you wouldn't have lost the 800 hours. I back mine up once a week. Takes a few seconds.
