The LEDs on the track clip pro are way better than the passive ir reflectors on the regular track clip.
Track Clip pro is essential unless you are a vampire or live in a cave, it also offers finer tracking and better latency than the reflector clip.
There are also apps that use the camera on you phone as tracker as well.
So long as you set up the sensors properly you shouldn't have much issue.
I agree with everyone above, Track IR is amazing and really changes the immersion when driving.
I personally use the "Delan Clip" at first for DCS but it has been brilliant in ATS / ETS 2 without any issues.
Whichever unit you go for you need to spend the time setting up. Don't rush it and all should be grand. Much cheaper than VR too.
