Euro Truck Simulator 2

Finally figured out how to make my cabin sounds louder!
I'm really enjoying Eurotruck Simulator 2, but the first thing I noticed about the game was how unnaturally quiet it was inside the truck. I've seen a few YouTube videos where you could hear cars and trucks passing you, but even with my volume cranked up I couldn't hear a thing, just the faint sounds of my own engine, blinkers, etc.

I downloaded a bunch of sound mods (Sound Fixes, Open Window, etc.), I changed the interior_sound setting in the config file. I downloaded ProMods and chose 16x cabin sounds. I tried everything and nothing really seemed to help. At all.

After doing some more research last night someone suggested that I open up game_data.sii and change the interior_sound_volume. (It was 0.5 and I changed it to 1.0). And suddenly, it sounds like I'm in a real truck! I can hear traffic sounds and I think I'm hearing more sounds from my own truck, as well.

This has been bugging me since I bought the game (I'm kind of a sound guy) so I'm glad I finally got it working. I'm posting this for anyone else who may be having the same problem.

My documents, open up euro truck folder, open profiles folder, open whatever you profile name is , open the save folder, then "1" folder and the game.sii file is there. Well it is for me anyways :)

game_data.sii is usually tucked away in the default def files, some mods use a altered game_data.sii, so editing one may cure it for a while until another mod is given priority with a different value. You would be better off using the "s_interior_volume " multiplier command in the console, default is 1.0 set it to your desired level, no need to keep reloading as it is real time..

Happy trucking :)

After extracting def.scs with SCS Extractor you will find it in the folder "def". In the file it says
interior_sound_volume: 0.05 // Interior sound attenuation value (the outside sounds will have 5% of original volume)
so "1.0" means the interior sound is 100 % of the outside volume.

I read this tip in a forum somewhere so I just did a Windows search for "game_data.sii". Took about 10 seconds to look for the file, make the change, and save it again.

NOTE: When I downloaded ProMods I had to download a "def" file. Perhaps this is why it was so easy to find? I didn't need to use an Extractor program to access the file.

Using Promods allows you to turn up external volume by factor of 16 but it also increases the sound of birds chirping to an unatural high volume, i usually use 4x but have since stopped using Promods as 4 out 5 journies through France end up with a Ctd at toll gate areas when Pm made edits to certain towns/cities, shame really cuz the map is quite bare without Pm and Rusmap.
Do you have to restart to notice changes? I changed from 0.05 to 0.25 and 1.25 with no difference to volume. Malc.

Hey, I just started playing this game today and also noticed how quiet it is in the cabin. I found the game_data.sii file, but if I open it with notepad or notepad++ the contents are gibberish.

EDIT: wait, I've never actually sat in a truck. Is it realistic to be so quiet?

It is. ;) Modern trucks are made with sound-proofing to reduce the noise levels inside the cab.

@Crazy Harry,

Man you saved me posting the exact same description of what I'd been trying lol. I went through the same process but for getting to your solution.

What worked for me, for outside noises, was downloading Sound Fixes v20.3 -instead of subscribing in the workshop - and using the Open Truck Window mod included, separately, with the main mod. I guess the Open Window mod on the workshop no longer works with ETS v1.36. At least it didn't for me.

If anyone's wondering, in the description for Sound Fixes there's a link for the download. Place Open Truck Window higher than Sound Fixes.

I'm still working on hearing my Mercedes New Actros engine more. It might be unrealistic to hear it much but it's more immersive in a game. Hell... don't we all find it a bit funny that we want to hear outside noises in the game whereas in real life we don't so much? lol.

Anyway I'll try the what's been suggested here.

That works! Thanks.

Haha. Strange to see this thread resurrected. I recently started playing ATS (I grew up in Wyoming and wanted to play the expansion) and had the sound problem again. This time I figured out a super easy fix that I didn't know about before...

I rolled down my window!

I'm pretty sure that was my issue all along.
