FWIW, I won't replace my G25 of 12 years yet. It still works flawlessly and i've not seen a suitable replacement.
I should have possibly thought about getting an older Logitech G model, like a G27, as they seem to be fine.
The options I was looking at a while back were well outside of my budget. And while they might offer more favourable features such as belt drive for smoother, quieter operation, it seems you get much less for your money these days. Want a shifter as well? That's gonna be another couple hundred bucks!
I got a G27 back in 2015 because it was on sale for $200. I bought one for me and one for a friend on the other side of the country. After almost 3 years, the FFB was really loud, and almost felt like it was skipping teeth on the gears. Logitech replaced it, but since the G27 was discontinued, they gave me a G29+shifter instead. Since 2018, my G29 has shown none of the problems the G27 had during my time with it.
BUT. My G29 has developed new problems. The red circle thing, I've never had it working correctly. Sometimes turning left with it would do the right-turn input, and vice versa. Sometimes it won't register, sometimes it registers like 4 rapid inputs in a row. Don't understand it, so it doesn't get used. The only reason I chose the G29 over the G920 was because of this dial pushing the button count higher than the G920.
I typically use the paddles for indicators rather than shifting, but some days the paddles work fine in that manner, other days I have to spam the paddles to get the indicators to work. It's not a big deal to me, but I guess if you're racing or something, it can be problematic.
The only problem that really made me upset, and this occured with the G27 as well, was that the shifter would sometimes report 6th/reverse as each other. I once got so fed up with that that I made 1st gear Reverse and never used the reverse again. This problem is on both the G27 and G29/G920 G-force shifter.
The Logitech hub software thing, is absolute garbage. The older Logitech software actually did things. The only reason to install the current software is for the drivers. Otherwise it's just a waste.
G27 FFB might have failed from me being very rough/abusive with it, doing 12 hour drift sessions and whatnot almost daily, in a hot af room. The friend I mentioned, his G27 is still doing fine to this day. No loud noises, buttons are working great. He just doesn't use it as much anymore.
Same for me. Also 12 years old. Only thing I had to do was replace the pot in the accelerator pedals last year.
never once had a problem.
On Day 1 of using this wheel, it instantly started squeaking when I turned. This is a common problem everybody has but Logitech has done nothing about it.
Mine has not done that ever.
Other than GHub being what it is, I've not experienced any of said issue in the 3 years I've had my G29.
So i am. Never problems with G29
G-Hub with Logitech G29???? Never worked for me. This issue is everywhere known. Use Logitech Gaming Software https://support.logi.com/hc/de/articles/360024694994--Downloads-G920-Driving-Force-Racing-Wheel
