to check if it works, in Windows go to Control Panel, Devices, look for game controller/g29xxxx. Next Game Controller Settings, on the new window be sure to select the g29. Then click on Properties, if the shifter is OK buttons 13 to 18 will turn red when you select each of the gears
It works fine with that solution.
So you might find, there are hobby engineers making little money building those special connector/converter. you could build it yourself if you have the parts and skill needed.
Making the adapter DIY is a bit technical, there's the parts and soldering, but there's also code or program (Arduino) so it appears as something like "g27shifterDevice" and not "FactoryDevice" and also making it plug and play like "joystics" controller Devices.
+ you need to name inputs: the arrows, joyAxisX, etc... I think it's quite some work.
So buying one already-made is a good deal. (and cost what it cost: total of individual parts minimum + manual work + shipping)
I hear people using GHub, i personally dont use GHub myself because i previously found it to be completely useless compared to the earlier software called Logitech Gaming Sotfware which shouldn't be confused with GHub cause its not the same. For me anyway, GHub never really worked, was never consistent, but LGS was & still is consistent, I've never had any trouble with LGS software, only with GHub i encountered many many issues with my G29 steering wheel, Pedals & Shifter. I read many forums online back then that said that the GHub software was useless was causing many issues with consistency with Logitech steering wheel combos aka Logitech steering wheels, Pedals & Shifters. Have you tried going back to using the older software "Logitech Gaming Software", if not, try it out & see if it works, it definitely worked for me, have had no further issues with my G29 wheel, pedals or shifter on ETS2, i've been playing it for years with absolutely no issues with it.
Hope this helps.
