Any good map mods for the base game?
I don't own any DLC and I'm wondering if there are any good map expansion mods that will work with just the base game?

ProMods and RusMap are the most known map expansions and they are huge. Try to find some video's of them on youtube.
The people who are making ProMods and RusMap do need some time to implement all the changes SCS makes with every update, so you are a little behind as it comes the newest stuff in gameplay. But you will get a huge map on which you won't get bored at all.

No, it will not. Things have changed regardless of game assets.

Nearly all map mods require DLC maps so they can make use of the assets, as above said too much has changed to use older map mod versions (your game will just crash like mad if you tried).

It's worth adding though, since I know you are new to the game, if you do eventually go the route of map mods they will break with almost every game update so you will often be waiting for map mods to update before you can try the newest game versions unless you run two profiles.

true, thas is why I resigned from map mods recently. I own all map DLC, and I'm finding it well enought

I never had any problem with any promods compatible map to disable it while waiting for new versions after game update.

Since there don't seem to be any map mods that you can use, my suggestion is to buy a map DLC because it will enhance the immersion, gameplay and the visual quality. I am especially thinking of Scandinavia or Vive la France.
