Game is too annoying and not worth playing.
As the title says, the mod system and recent updates in the game are making me hate it, I used to play daily but now I barley play once a month.

1. First off the new updates made the sounds messed up with the new sound engine, so I had to revert to a older version, and tbh I dont even notice a difference with anything each update.
2. Second, continuing from the first reason, the mods are annoying to deal with, and have to keep track of sometimes 10+ mods may not sound like much, but its hard, and when the game auto updates, I don't know what mods are good or not, and when I remove them, I risk breaking my game save, my solution would be getting a in-game modhub similar to Farming Simulator where nothing can go wrong, and its easy to safely get mods for the game, rather then having to go onto extremely sketchy websites, to find proper, good mods, causing me to feel uncomfortable downloading them, so I am stuck with the Vanilla game with 1 truck mod that I have had since 1.35, and I don't want to risk updating incase my game saves.

TL:DR: This game is super annoying and its system for how it does things is bad. Please fix it

in response to number 1. The change to FMOD in version 1.37 was only the START of the revolution in the soundscape of the game. since 1.37 there have been updates to the sound and the sound of the trucks IS improving. the old sound wasn't realistic anyway because modern trucks have excellent soundproofed cabs and good exhaust systems and so you cannot actually hear that much of the engine noise until you open a window. The last game update contained a substantial rebuild of Lille so it IS NOT the case that the updates are not changing anything.

in response to number 2. This is an issue for EVERY game that supports 3rd party modifications. Mods are created and kept up to date at the whim of the author. that is NOTHING to do with SCS Software and it IS NOT their responsibility to do anything about. if you have mods from Steam Workshop that are no longer compatible because of the game version then complain to the mod author on the page for the mod. Also there IS technically an "in-game" mod hub. When you open up mod manager there is a link to Steam Workshop.

Personally, after every update i find other games to play to give mod authors time to update their mods. i have plenty of games and don't feel the need to play one game all the time.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of mods ...
You can not seriously think that the developers should take into account that all these mods will continue to work after each update of the game?

Nobody forces you to use mods ...
However, you are welcome to use mods if you like ... but it is your own responsibility to use mods, and you (or the mod author) must make sure to update mods after each update of the game.

I, myself, do not have a problem with SCS and the way they do things.

If you would keep up with the game through the SCSblog, you would know when the new updates were out. Just because the game updates, doesn't mean you have to play it. Play an older version and wait for the modders to update their mods.

Also, make sure your mods are in the right order. That can mess things up.
As far as the new sounds, they are still working on it and hopefully, they will get it to where everyone likes it. IMHO, it still needs work but, I have faith that they will do the right thing.

Give it time, keep your game updated, get the DLC's when you can afford to and stay calm.
Things will work out.

Remember, SCS does not support the mods, it's up to the modders to take care of their mods.

Maybe we should ask SCS to stop working on the game so your mods can stay up to date permanently :)

If MOD authors followed correct procedures and included proper details that state mod is for a certain version, the mod manager would not allow it if it was out of date.

I wish that could be made as a requirement for the game to accept the mods. Only if they have the manifest file and the compatible game version is stated in there the mod can be used at all when it is compatible with the current game version.

The opposite is true. If you go there the chance you find crappy mods is very high.
Stick with the SCS forum, the workshop or modders own pages and you usually will find enough valid information about the mods and regular updates as well.
You can also contact the mod authors this way.

@Wolfgang: That would be nice but also would require some old mods that are still working to be updated regularly. It very much depends on the kind of mod. A paintjob i.e. will last a long time and is very unlikely to break or crash the game. I still use a few mods that are old but still working.

All in all it is as it is in every game. If you use mods it is your own responsibility and you should be aware that it can break the game.
If you have no idea what you are doing, stay away from mods.

Adding to this though, the game does include the in game options for mods, such as activating them, and I am just implying that it would become much easier, as in Farming Simulator you don't need to keep track of game versions, and the simply work.

TBH I would actually love that, as I don't use any DLCs, and I never notice any improvements or changes after each update, so I simply feel fine staying on 1 verison.

Most of the time I know what I am doing, SCS does support mods in a way that they do allow for them in the game, with the mod options. Having something like the Farming Sim ModHub would be much easier, all mods are supported no matter what, and it will make user experience way less complicated and easier

With the DLCs, I don't plan on getting any on wasting money on them, and with updates, its all the same to me, I rather spend money on another game, staying on one version is easier for me. And SCS could make an effort to make things way easier, maybe in a ETS3
Emaulligu Aug 27, 2020 @ 6:25am
If you want to roll back to an old version to keep your mods functionnal, right click on your game, properties, betas, and there you can pick an older build of the game.

But the game updates and mods need to be kept up to date, no surprise here.
