Problem with the lost profile
I haven't been playing ETS2 for about half a year due to the moving to other continent, which was quite a time-consuming experience. In the meantime I also changed my PC - from Windows 7 desktop to Windows 10 laptop. Now I installed the game back (with all expansions and DLCs) and wanted to play, but I have a big problem with the profile :(

After copying the old profile files to the My Documents folder, the game still couldn't detect that profile and prompted me to make a new profile. And so I did - I deleted the copied folder with the old profile and I made a brand new profile - just to replace the profile files later. But after saving the game there was still no "Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder in My Documents folder :( How's that possible?! What to do now? :/ I was trying to switch the old profile between the folders "profiles" and "steam_profiles" but it didn't work. The game can't detect my game files (including my profile files). I deleted the new profile from in-game level and don't know what to do further to continue playing. I don't want to lose all those years of in-game progress :(

Can anybody help me please? Why ETS2 doesn't create the appropriate folder in My Documents folder in my Windows 10 laptop? Why ETS2 cannot detect the old profile even if I copy all the files to the appropriate folder? Such file operations always worked fine so why they don't work now? :/

First off .. stop OneDrive and disable it first and foremost . In your game profiles go se the game version to the last one you played , look at your profile that you backed up and find the version it was last on . Then the game should see the profile . Load it make sure it works and close the game . Then update it one version at a time and make sure the profile loads with each update . just to make sure nothing goes wrong, you can though if you feel ok with it just go right to the most recent and hope your profile loads , your choice but it should be fine . Then your game and old profile should run properly . One drive will be the culprit making the folder "vanish" so turn that junk off . Cheers

Oh, I didn't thought about OneDrive, these are my first 3 months with Windows 10 :) I found the game folder in OneDrive folder, with no profiles at the moment. What if I want to use OneDrive with ETS2? Can I do this? Or it's gonna make problems with the game itself or its synchronization with the Steam Clous saving?

keep it off its useless and will Only cause issues with ets2 and other things . It isnt important by any means . Just stop it disable it and reboot your pc and allow steam to update things if needed.IF you need to back up just back up your Whole Documents folder that way Everything is saved, just copy / paste it somewhere safe like a USB stick or w/e works for you .

Just do not have OneDrive syncing the "Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder. Tell OneDrive to keep it on your harddrive. It should have a green tick against it.

If you want to use OneDrive as a backup then you can just copy your "Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder to OneDrive.

I have OneDrive running all the time but it is not syncing my Documents folder or other folders. I only copy stuff there when I want to, not when MS tells me.

I totally deinstalled OneDrive, but the game still can't see the ETS2 folder with my profile :( No matter if the profile is in Profiles (as originally) or Steam_Profiles subfolder :/ It still forces me to create a new profile, like it didn't see there is a profile already (on my old PC I had no such problems, the profile has always been seen and loaded upon game launch). I'll try to reinstall the game, maybe this works...

By the way, now it appears I have the same problem with ATS too ;(

Thanks, but it's too late, I deinstalled OneDrive through Registry settings. But of course I backup all my game saves (on an expansion disk). The oldest files I keep remember the early 2000s ;)

Before reinstalling my operating system and delete everything, I copied the 227300 folder, the profile is there, but there are no saves in it (I don't know why). I didn't check when I copied that folder so that's everything I got. Is there a way to get back my profile or it's gone ?

22730 that is the "remote" cloud folder for steam cache and syncing it is not your profile(s) or saves.
Your profiles and saves are in "\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder..
You need to save the whole folder. If you are going to re-install everything.

For ATS I did the same and that folder (different number) contained my profile and now I'm able to play it. I already re-installed the OS deleting everything. Is there another way to get it back (except reading hard-disk memory) ?
