Did you activate Steam Cloud for that profile in the game?
Maybe you can download it manually (don't ask me how, this is more a guess).
I now always keep a backup on my external drive and on one drive just to be safe - Steam cloud saves seem to do nothing for ETS unfortunately
i have to start over
Sadly yeah it does. its a huge pain and they really need to get steam cloud saves working properly to stop this from happening. I also stopped using all mods as that broke my game file once and i had to start over then too.
Now if i use promods i have it on a seperate save file, again to be safe
- Steam cloud itself must be enabled in steamsettings for ETS2
- Cloud backup must be enabled in specific game profile in ETS2 itself.
The second is on a per profile base. So you can have profiles saved on steam cloud and profiles saved only locally. Probably you didn't enabled this option in mentioned profile. And if this is the case you can only rely on local backup ....... :-(
This is VERY handy to know, ive been playing since the game was launched and never knew this. so you need to also enable it in the game itself too in order for it to save to the cloud?
In the profile menu choose the profile you want to save on steamcloud click edit and enable the checkbox "Use Steam Cloud" directly under "Company name"
If this is not enabled your profile will only be saved locally
That is in general always best practice, that's why I stated "you can only rely on local backup"
I always have my USB ready before any reset or new installation.
It is always the best way to make local backups but the info you've provided is very helpful indeed :)
You'd think that they would have a disclaimed on the store page about it, or at least a pinned topic. I know quite a few people who have lost their profiles due to a pc crash or restart
