Valve Index how?

I've tried many times since getting my valve index to play this game in VR with little to no luck. I decided after like 6 months since my last attempt to try again. I keep reading great things about VR on this game. I made sure my ETS2 launch option is -openvr and selected the Oculus/Vive 1.37 (sdk 1.4.0) beta. I launched game first time and sure enough it was working in VR, so following other guides out there first thing i did was go to setting to make sure in-game anti-aliasing and other settings are off, only thing i did was click off on Anti aliasing and game switched to desktop. I closed game, re-launched, steam just keeps saying, "Euro Truck Simulator 2 does not support VR. It will appear on your desktop and may affect VR performance" and launches on my desktop. I can't get it working in VR again. i'm pretty sure these are some of issues last time i tried this and doesn't seem like it's been resolved. This is pretty frustrating reading guide after guide after youtube video all simply telling me same thing, to use -openvr and beta etc. then following to tell you how to tweak settings, yet i can't get it to launch in VR!!!
Is this just another case of yet another VR game that doesn't work on Index but works on old vive and oculus? am i just out of luck?
