I never get compressed files
I never get compressed files whenever i try to download mods outside steam workshop. The file I always get has a piece of paper for an icon. Does anyone know what im doing wrong? This isn't just a problem for one specific website, its generally some thing that haunts me anywhere I try to download mods.

download the mod, open the file in the downloads folder, click on folder to extract the file, another file will appear, you can delete the original file, right click on the replica and copy the relevant file (SCS) within or do a complete copy depending on content, paste to your mod file, it should then be visible in mod manager, Malc.

Sounds to me like you're seeing .rar files. It's just another form of compression. Can be opened with most file-archive utilities, but mainly by Winrar.
You must extract the file after downloading.

Another possibility is they are downloading .scs files. These are just zip files but they are ready to go and can just be placed in the ETS2 mod folder.

here another thing, sometimes (on the rare times I get compressed folders) they contain a bunch of stuff and non of them are actual things i can turn on in mod manager even if i put all of them in the mods folder.

Quick computer lesson:
.zip, .rar., .7z are all common compressed file formats that you need to extract before utilizing the content. I would recommend downloading 7Zip as it's completely free and supports all the above mentioned formats.

The game will recognize files that ends with the .scs extension placed inside the mod folder. Alternatively the Steam Workshop will manage your subscribed mod items automatically for you.

Unless they changed it, you can use files ending .zip provided they are of course a plain zip file and structured appropriately inside the package / archive. Pretty sure you can also load unpacked mods, so it's easier to test things as you develop them.

True, though I strongly recommend manually extracting the actual .scs files as a mod user so you can be sure of the content and rid of any potential funky stuff packaged together in other compressed file formats.

Using WinRAR is a bit better it's more commonly used and supports anything

So i cant just rightclick the files and click extract here, cause that option doesnt exist when i right click. I have to download an "extracter" like winrar or 7-zip?

That is correct, 7zip is free and i've been using it for yonks with no mishaps,. Winrar is also good but there is a fee, there is a link for 7 zip in manwithnoname's post above, Malc.

And I should just extract all to the mods folder or just the .scs files?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
download the mod, open the file in the downloads folder, click on folder to extract the file, another file will appear, you can delete the original file, right click on the replica and copy the relevant file (SCS) within or do a complete copy depending on content, paste to your mod file, it should then be visible in mod manager, Malc.
